We would like to try PGD! We can only afford to try this once. What is the reality that one time will be enough? I have been calling around and looking for something close to Nebraska and can find nothing. How do you know who do go with?

I can tell you that Conceptions in Colorado does it... which isn't tooo far from Nebraska.  :-)  I used the ART statistics (available online) to help me find a facility with a fairly high successful pregnancy rate.  If you google ART IVF success rates you should find it pretty easily.

I'm still in my cycle, currently on day 9 of stims... so I'm not a success story- yet.

It's really dependent on several factors - your odds of success that is.  I would say pinning your hopes to being a possible OHW would be a bad idea.  Yes, it can TOTALLY happen, but the law of averages says that it won't.  If you can only afford to do it once, then be sure you can go into the experience with the knowledge that it's a last ditch attempt.  Go into it with the mindset expecting not to get pregnant but that you had to at least try to feel like you did everything in your power to get your DG. Then if it doesn't work you are prepared for it.....and if it does you're over the moon.  Good Luck Clover

PS---I don't mean to be a Debbie Downer - just trying to be real.

You are not being a Debbie Downer !! Thanks for just telling it how it is. I just do not know what to do. I have been losing sleep over this for weeks. I am just happy to have other women out here to help. Thanks so much for you reply.

You could also look out of the country for a more affordable option that would give you more than one try, just a thought

Hey there- do me a favor and shoot me an email... I'd love for you to put me down as a referral.  :-)  My email is mymadori@yahoo.com.  You're right, I do believe they're less expensive than most- and there's an additional 25% off if you are paying entirely out of pocket.

I know that prayingforprincess is going through a place in Mexico.  You'll see her posts that are recent because I believe she's going back in 3 weeks.  I would google it and there are a few places in Mexico actually that are a lot less than the states.  Of course there's travel but still....good luck to you.

I hate to sound like a debbie down too, but odds are not in your favor that you will be successful in your 1st attempt.  My RE told me (of course after my 1st failed cycle) that in reality only about 20% of couples walk away with a baby when attempting gender selection.  It usually takes at least 2-3 attempts to work he says and many cannot spend that kind of money.  Your 1st cycle is always going to be a "trial run", they don't know your body, they don't know how you will respond to the medication so doc's are more conservative the 1st attempt, you'll look back on things you would have liked to have done differently yourself...etc.  I know my 2nd was a lot more successful than my 1st from what both I and the doctors learned, and it still did not work (not completely over yet though, still have a frozen bean but am trying not to be too optomistic).  I wish I had the moeny to go a 3rd cycle.  The doctor would do differently, maybe it would work, maybe not -- but I can't.  I wish you much luck if you do decide to go through with ht.
