You should start NOW contacting doctors to set up consults.  Preparing your research, doing pre-cycle tests, etc.

I'm not sure what you mean by this?  Are you looking for a time line?  Typically with pre-cycle testing you can complete an IVF cycle in about 2-3 months at the fastest.

If you are not interested in genetic testing then you are in the wrong place and you should consider swaying.  High tech is genetic testing to ensure 100% you are having a boy.  That means they have to extract at least 1 cell from an IVF embryo and test it to make sure it is the XY chromosome before they implant it back inside your body.

You have lots of research to do!  You should consider reading Green Zelda's blog, it's a great source of information.  Here is a link: http://www.in-gender.com/cs/blogs/greenzelda Good luck to you!!  Good Luck Clover Good Luck Clover Good Luck Clover

I understand to get the 100% they have to check for that... I guess Im just not interested in genetically testing for other things... you have to understand I have 4 daughters so to try swaying at home is not a choice for me... you know what I mean??? We would love to have a boy but if it takes having alot more kids to have one... I dont know. I love kids and would love having a ton more... if I had enough time to give to all of them! So I think Gender Selection is right for me or something along those lines!

Thanks for the imput!

Then if you are interested in IVF/PGD (or aCGH) you are doing IVF with genetic chromosome testing.  If you do PGD 2-probe, you are only testing the first 2 chromosomes: X & Y.  To find out if the baby is a boy or girl.  This is the least expensive type of testing.  5-probe tests 5 chromosomes, etc. etc. etc.  all the way to aCGH which tests all chromosomes.  The reason testing all chromosomes is "hot" right now is because if you implant a perfect aCGH embryo back into your person, the chances of it implanting and you getting pregnant and delivering a healthy baby are high, higher than an embryo tested only with 2-probe PGD.  Does that make sense?  Your RE may have specific recommendations for you and with your research you'll have to decide which path you want to take.

I think it's a waste of time and money just to do the 2-probe. Many of us here are around 35 and up and the risk of having Down's and other genetic abnormalities jumps high regardless of IVF or natural. And most of us don't have these problems run in the family anyways, but when you give your all to have your dream son/daughter, there is no place for gambling. They take one cell anyway, but they can test up to 5 probes and give you a confident enough information, with a higher probe the cell is washed away and the data is not as reliable. On average, between 50% and 75% of your embryos will be abnormal, but if you only look at the x and y you won't know who has what, you will know just the sex. Healthy is equally important, just my opinion! Good luck and keep reading!

Choosing whether or not to do the rest of the genetic testing is very important.  If you were to check the success rates (take home baby percentage) of someone using genetic testing vs someone not using genetic testing, you'll see a significantly different success rate.  Most miscarriages occur due to genetically abnormal embryos, so your chances of miscarriage drop dramatically.

I had my first appointment with my doc about a month ago, and all of my testing begins this week...we're not planning on doing an actual transfer until September or October...so I'd say start looking for a doc now!  :-)

Actually, with all due respect,  if you are not interested in genetic testing then you can still consider high tech so you are not in the wrong place.  When she says "Cooligh tech is genetic testing," she is referring to PGD, but that is not the only high tech method - you could consider doing Microsort via IUI or via IVF without the genetic testing (PGD) procedure (PGD ups the percentage of desired gender from Microsort's 80-something-% for boys to 99.9% with PGD).   PGD is the procedure where one cell is removed for genetic testing of gender (and also additional things if you so choose).  But you can do Microsort without genetic testing and significantly improve your chance of a boy. You could also choose genetic testing (ie. PGD) along with Microsort and have an even higher chance of a boy (because the Microsort would sort out many of the "girl" sperms, and then the remaining mostly-male embryos would be genetically tested).  Hope that makes some sense - lots of girls around here know a lot more than me, but I wanted to clarify the point for you because swaying is a pretty risky (ie. as to gender success) road to success and is certainly not your only option if you don't want to do the 100% genetic testing.  Good luck, and welcome!

Microsort is not available for gender balancing in the US and no one knows if and when it will be. Unless you travel to Mexico or Cypres, you can't do it here with or without IVF. BTW, CJ's Kids, your stats on Microsort and way too inflated, for boys it's around 72-75% and for girls is around 90%. So, ErinHen is correct with her post. Not to mention the pregnancy rate with just Microsort has been around 12% or close to that!

Sorry I guess my information is outdated then - I thought Microsort was available, and it has historically had an 85% or so success rate for boys.  That must be old info - thanks for clarifying. That being said, PGD is not the only available high tech method then - she could travel to other countries and do high tech while avoiding genetic testing. Right?

She could travel to Mexico or Cyprus to do Microsort with IUI or IVF without PGD genetic testing, but again, that is nowhere near a 100% guarantee you will have your desired gender. You would be taking a huge gample of getting an opposite. There is no way on earth I would ever spend $25,000+ to fly to another country and do microsort *without* PGD or aCGH just to end up with the opposite gender. That's crazy in my opinion. Also, something else to think about, Microsort is not a miracle. Many RE's believe it damages sperm thus causing lower fertility rates. I have also seen several ladies on here who did Microsort (when it was available for gender selection in the USA) and they still ended up with little to NO embryos of their desired gender!! In case you are interested, here is a recent article on Micosort: http://ieet.org/index.php/IEET/more/dahl20110517.

As long as you realize that this is an expensive gamble! IVF / PGD is extremely expensive and can take multiple attempts (full cycles and FET cycles) for it to be successful (and even then unfortunately not everyone succeeds). It is one big crap shoot. Testing 24GSN or similar still takes one cell and does not require washing the cell as far as I am aware. The results are very good. If you do a 2 probe and have a lot of embryos (as you may given your age) then you are relying on picking the best metabolically but this is not always the one that is the chromosomally healthiest. At your age I would do 24GSN just so that I could ensure I pick the best out of the bunch. Leaving things to chance is trying to put a little natural into a totally unnatural process - why bother? I assure you if you get a BFN you would be wishing you had at least eliminated one unknown and that is chromosomes. The "natural" part comes when the embryo is placed back into your uterus. Even a metabolically perfect, chromosomally normal embryo can fail to make a baby and that is the only part of leaving it to chance I would recommend. Good luck.
