I'm afraid I didn't have any luck getting any more info on the epo but I've copied one of atomic's quotes on the FA and asthma from the other site, hth for now!
3)This is not a stupid question at all. Yes, .5 milligrams is the equivalent of 500 micrograms. I would just take the 5 mg back to the store because unless you have a baby with a neural tube defect you don't need to take that much anyway, and it's not going to be as well absorbed when you take a large dose all at once.
Yes, I have read about the link between folic acid and asthma. However, the data that I read said that it's folic acid taken during the THIRD trimester and not the first trimester. http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases...1104111735.htm (one of many articles that you can find via the power of Google ). If you ahve read on the Internet that FA causes asthma when taken in the first tri, this is a very dangerous typo. ALL pregnant women, esp. blue swayers, MUST take folic acid during the first trimester to prevent birth defects, and then slowly wean themselves off to their prenatal vitamin, do not quit cold turkey.
The recommended dosage for blue swayers is 2000 mcg (that's MICROgrams) a day, taken in 4 or 5 smaller dosages spaced throughout the day so you could take 4 of your .5 mg pills, morning, noon, afternoon, and before bed for best absorption.
This seems like a lot, but the boy supps are very draining of folic acid. When I TTC my DS 3, I wasn't even on the boy diet but I was drinking green tea twice a day and even though I was taking 800 mcg, he still has a small, mild form of spina bifida.
