Well I finally convinced them to induce me at 6 days over, on the 21 Dec the midwife broke my waters at 10am, then told me the doc had said if contractions didnt start within an hour I would have to have cintocin drip - well, no way was i letting that happen!! So hubby and I walked up and down the internal stairs of the hospital, finally 50 mins after waters were broken I got my first contraction, they started 5mins apart and intense, hubby went to get himself a quick lunch but I had to call him back before he got there, they were down to 3 then 2 mins within 1/2 hour, I walked a track around the birthing room until quarter past 1 when I asked for some gas, midwife let me have a go at it, worked a treat but left me feeling like I was going to pass out so had to lie down, within another 1/2 hour contractions were on top of each other, the awesome midwife just kept gently saying "you do whatever your body tells you to darling, breath if you can, push if you need to...."
At about 1.45 I started pushing, bubs head was born with 2 pushes but he had cord around his neck and had come out side on so shoulders took a bit to manouver around, 2 more pushes after mw had detatched cord and got him into position and my darling baby boy was born at 1.53pm - 3 hours after my first proper contraction!!!
The birth was intense painwise but extremely fullfilling, I felt so calm and in control, and mw was so good about letting me go with my instincts. Bubba was exactly 8 pounds, 50.5cm long, and we are SOOOO in love!!!
We have named him Malachi, (pronounced Mal-a-kye) but the verdict is still out on his middle name, I have given hubby till tonight to make up his mind!! I will update when we decide.
So great to read all the other lovely birth announcements - congrats everyone!! And to those girls still waiting, hang in there!! Not long now, and it is SOOOOO worth the wait in the end!!
I will hopefully get some time soon to post some pics too.
