Today I had a regular appointment. I'm 13 1/2 weeks. The midwife could NOT get the heartbeat. She brought in the portable u/s and found the baby, saw him/her moving and could see the HB. Tried again with the doppler and again, could not get the HB. I know I SAW the baby move and I SAW the HB, but I'm still kind of freaked out. Have any of you had this happen?

zoidy:

My midwife refused to even try to get the HB until I was about 18 weeks because it is so hard to find before that and she knew it would just make me worry . If you saw the Hb on the u/s I don't think you have anything to worry about Happy

I agree. Im sure everything is fine... My midwifes won't try until you reach 16 weeks

My baby's HB was so hard to find with the doppler all the way untill I was 23 weeks along .I guess it all depends on the position the baby is in everytime the doctor tried to find the HB she would swim away from the doppler lol sneeky lil stinker... so I would not worry at all as long as you see the HB on the ultrasound...Good luck and God bless.

Depending on the way baby is laying, it can be hard to get a heartbeat on those things. It's really nothing to worry about and happens all the time. :)

I wouldn't worry.  I am sure you're fine.  We didn't worry about not being able to find the hb at 16 weeks until we couldn't find it with a u/s.

I wouldn't worry.  My Dr had a hard time finding my baby's heartbeat at both 12 weeks and 16 week and had to do an U/S.  Turns out he was looking way too low and the baby was hanging out up at the very top of my uterus.

my doctor couldn't find the heartbeat on me till well into the 20 week range. We tried and tried all the time and I always ended up in ultrasound every time. I didn't have a funny sitting placenta or anything and I wasn't fluffy or bloated. Just a stinker to find

Hi .....yes ive had this problem on many occassion, they even sent me for an ultrasound to make sure. But i have an anterior placenta (which means it is at the front, instead of behind). Anterior placentas are common and its common to have difficulties in finding the HB. You might find out this, in your case???....
