Hi Ladies. Have been reading a bit about placenta placement as regards to gender = left side - girl right side - boy. Not sure what side my placenta is on but in my pics 11w6d the yolk sac is connected to the right (but mirror image so left) is this the same thing or am I completely confused! Had 20w scan and didn't find out sex but now wish I had!! Have posted nub shots and most people seems to think girl but after 3 boys this seems unlikely to me?!? Any advice appreciated. Cheers

I dont know about the placenta but judging by the nub i would say it could be a Baby Bear Girl..

I posted a very similar question except my yolk sac was on right. I was told that the yolk sac turns into the placenta. I am not sure how true that is and was unable to find anything confirming that on "Dr. Internet", so I might ask at my appt on Tues. My OB is used to my completely random questions Happy If worse comes to worse the US tech can pull up your US and tell you what gender. I had them pull pics from my first US with my DD two years ago, so I don't think it would be too much to ask.

Asked OB today and she said that the yolk sac and placenta are in the same location. The yolk sac comes first and then placenta grows on top of it until the yolk sac disintegrates. GL!

Thanks TNbaby07. Do you know if ultrasound pics are as they seem or mirror images? In my pic seems to be connected to the right but would that be in reverse? It is all so confusing!! Cheers

I'm really not sure about this theory!!!  Both my boys yolk sacs were attached on the left (vaginal ultrasound which isn't mirrored) which should have resulted in girls per the theory.  This baby's yolk sac at 6 wks was also attached on the left so we'll see very soon if the theory is wrong again :-).

Oh, maybe it is a load of old nonsense too then!! I never paid any attention to these things with my previous children (all boys) so unfortunately have nothing to compare it with!

I'm really not sure about this theory!!!
  Here is what I've found ( I copied/pasted it from www.obgyn.net/fetal-monitoring/)

Table one showed that the incidence of male fetuses in relation with right lateral placenta was 99.1% followed by fundal lateral anterior at 98.7% then by fundal right lateral posterior placenta at 98.5%, then by anterior right lateral placenta at 97.4%, and by the posterior right lateral placenta at 96.2%. The overall average of this incidence was 97.25% for male fetuses and this is very significant result.

Table two showed that the incidence of female fetuses in relationship with the fundal left lateral anterior was 98.7% followed by fundal left lateral posterior at 98.6%, then by left lateral placenta at 98.5%, then by anterior left lateral placenta at 97.7% and by the posterior left lateral placenta at 96.8%. The overall average of this incidence was 97.5% and it is very significant. This result might influence fetal gender if the IVF implantation was directed accordingly to the specific site for the specific gender desired.

Maybe your boys were in these 2,75% of "girl position" placenta? I really want to know if U/S pics are mirrored.....I *think* they should have some sort of mark for right and left, not sure though.....

From what I understand, vaginal ultrasounds are not mirror image but abdominal ultrasounds are.

I have read a lot on this recently and a lot from ultrasound techs, too that the opposite is typically true of those who are stating about the images being flipped if they are Transvaginal or abdominal.. Here on in- gender and other sites...and the results were proven by the genders compared with the scans tht the following seems to hold true: Transvaginal Is mirror image Abdominal is Not mirror image. Now this is 'typical' of how the two types of ultrasound images are presented, from what they have said, but this is why you must ask your ultrasound tech, as they can flip either image for continuity of the picture that they are using on file from what I understand. This could be why many of you think it was opposite, but in fact, was in line with the theory(?)

I just recently read an article that states the ultrasound they Do abdominal r a mirror image so if it shows on the left that's what it should be??? And the opposite was for the internal ultrasound..I guess to know for sure an ultrasound tech could answer that one..

Tadtam-I think I read the same article! I see now how it is so confusing...for me and everyone else. It is in the interpretation of how to look at the picture. So, yes, my understanding was the same as yours, we just explain it differently(?) when you look at the transabdominal ultrasound picture, if the placenta is seen on the left of that photo, it is on the left of your body also. And the transvaginal photo may show a yolk sack ( or placenta) on the right side of the photo, but it is on the left side in your body. I hope that makes sense. It is so easy to get confused with this! It took me forever to get it!
