Kayla got her ears done at 2.5 months old. I never had a problem. Cleaned them all the time. Changing them was fine too. At christmas I even let her wear my pearl earring that I've had for ages. I don't know how high of quality they are. Never had an issue! For her Birthday I bought her a set of three sterling silver earring from Kmart. The posts were a little short but she wore them fine for about a month but some time this summer (almost a year of having them done) they got red and crusty so I took them out. I think they were on too tight. Once they healed I put the peircing earrings back in and they got red and gunky. Took them out to heal. I used cleaning sollution and triple A ointment. I did this about three times and every time they would get like that. I'm lost as too why. I've read a ton online and it all says to different things. Salt soaks, ointment, no hydorgen perxoid, blah blah.

I got her a pair of piercing earrings that are 14K gold and put them in yesterday. Right now they are a bit red and I'm not sure how it will work. By now the others would have been gunky. She does have eczema and it looks like she might have that on one of her ear lobes. Maybe this is the problem? I know if this doesn't work I'm taking them out for good. I'm just really sad about the whole thing and lost as to why now? I wish I had never bought those stupid Kmart earrings. I just wanted to vent about this because I love her with earrings so much, but if it's going to be a problem then I guess I have to accept it. Any tips or advice is welcome too. For now I just keep cleaning them 3 times a day.

My friend has an allergy to many metals and gets a reaction if she wears any less than 14 kt gold, so I'd stick with only high quality metals.

I dont understand why it happened after a year of them being in? And the original ones were stainless steel.

Ok so if this works out I can only get 14K gold? What about white gold?

IDK, L, but I do hope they get better.  I remember there was a member here (HOLT---she hasn't been around in a long time, I don't think), but her DDs ears got infected after she had them pierced for a long time.  I'll see if I can find the post, maybe there was helpful info in it.

here it is.  I know you said you're putting triple A on it, but maybe try putting it on the post, then putting it in her ear.

Could've been those earrings or it might be an infection.  My DD has her ears pierced, but I think I would take them out if she had trouble with them.  They're adorable, but it wouldn't be worth always have to deal with them, and maybe putting her in pain.  Hope her little ears get better soon.

I would have never found that on my own thanks! I'm considering the saline like a poster mentioned on there too.

I have allergies/asthma.  You mentioned that she has excema...sometimes they can be related.  I am allergic to ANY type of metal.  It's like my ears just don't want anything IN them, you know?  I still occasionally wear earrings for short periods of time (3-4 hours).  I have to first clean my ears and my earring posts with alcohol.  Then, at about the 3 hour mark, they start to get red and itchy.  If I take them out at the first sign, they clear up in about an hour.  If I ignore the discomfort, they will be irritated for about a day or two once I remove them.  Random...but, I CAN wear Lia Sophia earrings.  They are covered in a Rhodium plating...which covers all metals underneath. They do have small birthday gem earrings (both "silver" and "gold")...you may want to look into them if all else fails  Hopefully your daughter's will clear up and be no problem.  I just thought you might want to be aware...even though I know my situation is not the norm.  Good Luck Clover

I just got my tragus (small cartilage piece on your ear) pierced again a couple weeks ago.  he told me to make a sea salt solution and put that on the piercing.  I haven't been and wasn't told to do that the first time I had it pierced, but it might be good for you to do.  I'll get the directions for the solution out of my truck in the morning.

Same here! But only when I was younger. My mom always had a problem with me til my grandmother who lives in the Azores bought me higher quality earrings from where she's from. Wore those things forever since they were the only things I didn't have a reaction to. Now that i'm older though, I can wear anything in my ears.

OMG...my best friend's parents are from the Azores. She visited 2 months ago (she was there when my DD was born) and sent me pictures......it's beautiful!

You are sooooo lucky! I still cannot tough any metals to my skin. I even got a bad reaction to a pair of sandals that had a small amount of metal decoration Sad. Oh well......hopefully DD will not inherit that.
