My breast pump arrived today, i expressed 1oz into a bottle and she will not take it! Any tips? I know its very early days, should i just keep putting it in her mouth everyday and hope she will start sucking?! She just pushes the teat out with her tongue.

unfortunately, i had this problem with all of my children. they wouldn't take bottles or pacis. at the advice of everyone i tried numerous different nipples to no avail. when my oldest dd finally had to go to daycare at 6 mos, the provider finally got her to take some from a medela bottle. she said it was difficult but in the end she had to prop her up (she wouldn't take it holding her) with pillows and hold the bottle for her. i know some bf babies don't like to take the bottle in the nursing position....others prefer. needless to say i was pretty much strapped to my kids until around 7-8 months when i taught them how to drink from a straw cup which was a lifesaver. hopefully you have better luck than i did. i have heard that if they get hungry enough, they'll eventually take it. you hate to see it get to that though. GL!

Thats the bit i hated! what a waste! Im going to keep trying! I BF DD1 for 4 weeks and she went onto a bottle no problem, i guess DD2 being older has alot to do with it? She wont even take a paci either so i should have known it would be a struggle to get her on the bottle.

Oh no! Wasnt there a room you could have gone in to feed him? I BF Imogen anywhere! Just cover her with a blanket so no-one can see.

No dear.. there r no specific private rooms for BF... this is one place where the localites just dont breastfeed! I see babies bottlefed everywhere...

The arabs have an issue even if I cover and bf...get all those strange looks and my inlaws get really uncomfortable! Hence I restrain doing tht... Learned it the hard way with ds1.. hence thought I wud express milk and bf ds2 this time...

Try the BreastFlow bottles, they're just like you and require baby to latch on as if she were breastfeeding. She might like them better.

I know... yday I went to the mothercare store here.. and I saw an Aventis bottle which facilitates BF along with the bottle feeding nipple... It was expensive .. close to 20 usd jst for the bottle... was wondering whether it would be a waste if I bought it and ds dsnt latch on it!

This is what im thinking. I looked at the breastflow bottle and read some reviews, some people are saying after 3 or 4 differet bottles they tried this one and the baby took to it straight away and had no problems with it. others are saying its poorly made and leaks. i dont know whether or not to risk it.

I'm breastfeeding my 3rd child, my daughter and MAN is she HARDWORK!!! My boys would switch from breast to bottle to dummy (pacifier) with no problems and no nipple confusion.

My girl is now 6 months old and still will not accept any form of nipple/bottle/teat/pacifier whatsoever - depsite our numerous attempts. We have BreastFlow bottles too - what a waste of £30 (for 6) they were!!!

I'm at a loss!! I need to stop breastfeeding for the sake of my 18 month old, who is suffering becuase I have to constantly hold and soothe and feed my 6 month old daughter..

I'm just going to perservere with breastfeeding until she self weans - she's not even started solids yet, depsite numerous attempts over the past 3 weeks - becuase she just hates hates hates anything else in her mouth other than my nipple.

I figure I'll just let her go at her own pace - they're only babies for such a short space of time - and as she's my last - I don't want to miss a minute so I'm trying my hardest to try and accommodate her  and do things as and when she is ready.

Good luck in your quest and I'll be watching this thread in case anyone has any tips or suggestions I haven't yet tried!

Unexpectedly expecting - pregnant with #4 This will definitely be the final baby. I have NO preference as to boy or girl this time round. Whatever I am handed, I accept gratefully, as long as s/he is healthy and arrives safely. I'M SO EXCITED!!!! AARRRGGHHHHH!!!

From my experiences, it may be too late to get her to really readily take a bottle.  She may take it if she HAS to, (because she's REALLY hungry) but will fight it.  I've always had this problem with all my girls except this one.  The difference with this one is that I offer her one bottle daily when she was about 3 weeks old until now.  So now she's used to it.  I just pump every morning and someone in the house feeds it to her later in the day at some point.

I have used Breastflow with dd3 and she took them, but again was normally fussy about it.  DD4 uses Playtex Drop Ins bottles.  I really think it's more about getting them used to bottles young than which type of bottle IMO.
