Excessive weight gain in first trimester

I've been gaining weight much faster than I should in the first trimester.  I'm in my 7th week, and have already gained 4 kgs (8.8 lbs). It's been at a rate of about 1 kg (2.2 lbs) per week for the last 4 weeks.  I was overweight before I fell pregnant, so it concerns me quite a bit.  The thing is, I have had a very poor appetite, and if anything, I've been eating less than usual.

Has anyone else experienced this, without having eaten a whole lot more than usual?  Or know what might cause it?  Could it indicate a problem with the baby/pregnancy?

I put on 15 in my first trimester so don't worry and I still add on a lot, but my family has a history of large kids so it may just be a larger baby or multiples even.

I have also gained an excessive amount of weight and am wondering the same. I started off around 117 and last week I weighed 124. I am 9 + 5 today. I don't know what the problem is. I did not gain like this with my first two; other people will say you show faster with each subsequent pregnancy, and I believe that, but I don't think you should gain more like I have. I'm not weighing myself anymore cause I don't feel like depressing myself. Let us know if your doctor mentions anything or if you find anything out! Oh and my 1st daughter weighed under 5 lbs and my 2nd 6 lbs 13 oz, both 37 wks. So I don't believe I have large babies, either. To me I have no excuse for this weight gain so its very concerning!

I have no idea what is the normal weight gain amount, but when I was last weighed at 19weeks I had gained 22lbs in total.

From what I've read, it should be up to 1 pound a week in the first trimester, and then go up more quickly from there.  I know it's more with twins, but I don't know what else could cause it.  I'll report back once I've spoken to the doctor, if she has anything enlightening to say on the subject!

i gained 10 lbs in 2 wks!!  however, i had been on the girl diet & was very restrictive w/ it up to BFP.  i really didn't eat more, but did change my eating (to normal!).  my weight gain has evened off now (mostly b/c of nausea & nothing sounds good to eat)  i think it's pretty normal for a lot of women.  oh, i also need to keep something in my stomach to help fight off the nausea which i think is contributing to the weight gain. and i was underweight from losing wght on the diet so  i think my body was trying to adjust itself.

if you are concerned, def talk to the dr.  my dr had talked about the possbillity of twins but i have a low chance of it.

good luck!
