this may not be the right place for this question... but i wanted to ask a group of ladies that have special needs kids what their thoughts were.  my history is i have two boys, one who i always suspected had something going on... even at some point thought maybe autism.  however, he has been diagnosed with apraxia of speech, which is unrelated to autism, but still a neurological condition involving the motor speech process (i am a speech pathologist, so at least i understand itStick out tongue ).  anyway, with him i did not get alot of ultrasounds, i was to scared of the possible dangers.  however, he still has these issues.  he is 2 and 1/2 and still not really talking, but getting there.  he is normal in all other areas.

my other son is 14 months, appears to be typically developing.

this pregnancy, i have found out i am having a girlHearts and we are thrilled.  however, now i am concerned over the multitude of ultrasounds i have had.  in the beginning i had a blood clot (SCH) by the baby so they did an u/s every week, most of my first trimester.  besides that i had a few un-needed u/s to confirm gender because i was obsessed with knowing!  now i am living in fear of any damage i could have caused, especially since i DO have one child with some level of disability.

anyone here have many u/s and then have a child with neurological damage of some sort?  or do you believe this link is untrue?

mommy to two beautiful son-shines and a little lady bug!!!   Considering a 4th...???

I was high risk with my first 3 and had tons of u/s's the only one of my kids that has had a mild delay with speech is my 3rd. So I dont think its related.

I had the usual amount of u/s that they give in the uk while pg with DS2. That is 2. And he has asd and speech and language disorder.

While pg with DD, i had 6 u/s and she is developing in a very typical way.

If anything i'd 'blame' DS2's birth, there were some complications and he was born by c/s after a longgg labour. But these are just suspicions on my part.Confused Huh?

His autism is probably genetic, there are two nephews with asd and adhd, and one cousin with autism in DH's family.

I don't think it is related to ultrasounds!  It sounds like you did the best you could with decisions regarding risks and your child-- so let yourself off of the hook.  No one knows what environmental triggers could cause certain things, but ultrasounds are not x rays-- I bet it is nothing you did or did not do.

I have performed ultrasounds for over 10 years and have never heard of it causing any harm to the fetus.  It projects only sound waves.  Ultrasound is not like the other diagnostic imaging like x ray, mammography, or CTs.  There is no radiation of anytype.  We do try to limit the exposure to fetuses though.  Our rule as ultrasound techs is always keep the power as low as possible and for as little time as possible.  I have multiple friends who are techs themselves and have scanned their babies from the time they knew they had conceived.  Non of which have any nueological problems.  I hope this sets you mind at ease.  I know the unknown can be scarey at times.  Congrats on your little  princess Hearts

Hey lets switch knowledge...Idea I would love to know more about speech pathology.  I bet it really comes in handy with your son.
