I have a friend who is an organic farmer near by.  So today I hitched up the bikes (pull 3 kids on my bike lol) and rode over to her place.  She was going to show me how to can beans but I asked for berries first.  So she taught me how to make organic jam.  Its SO GOOD.  It wasn't that much different than apple sauce, just more sugar.  She will show me how to can beans next time.  You should see her place. its AMAZING.

After she cans all her stuff for her family (4 boys and her and dh) she donates the rest to the food shelf... Thats truck loads of food.

Awesome T~  My mom and I make Jam every November.  I harvest my strawberry's and melons and freeze them and my mom gets her raspberry's and blueberry's and we boil them in different mixtures, add the sugar (and we added some vinegar?)  to taste, and can them for ourselves and for Christmas presents!  We still have neighbors who almost demand our home made jam at Christmas because they use it for their Christmas party's!

It's a great gift and with cheap jars and cute ribbon, they are wonderful!

I tried making jam once and itdid not turn out so well. My Grandma (passed away 6 years ago) used to make the BEST jam and applesauce.  I'd love to try, but don't think it would turn out again.  Anyone is welcome at any time to send me some home made jam and or applesauce Happy LOL

we can about 100 quarts of apple sause every other year.  This is my first year trying jam.. and it was so easy!  I did try it last year but messed it all up.  So my neighbor taught me and now I get it!  I wish I lived near you, I would love to teach you.  Maybe next year I'll try jelly; I hear its even eaiser

I wish we lived close by to you as well!  I think there is a lot you could teach me!  I'd love to have a garden, but have no idea where to start and am worried we have too many animals that would ruin it and I think we have grubs and I hear those are not good to have around when you have a garden. I also want chickens, but we can't have them where I live and dh thinks I'm nuts and that IG is some kind of crazy cult and that I have been sucked in and brainwashed because of some of the things/ideas I want to try out Stick out tongue

I made jam for the first time last week!  DJM posted a how-to post (with pics!) and it was really easy.  My kids Heart my jam!  And it came out a little too runny, so it's also a good ice cream topping.Stick out tongue
