Whoa - slow down honey! if youe dentist didn't _say_ cancer, don't assume.  The hospital thing if the swelling and absess infectioncould be because if you get an infection in your mouth, it can quickly travel into the bloodstream and be dangerous.  Scary, but not cancer.  Call your dentist and ask him point blank about your fears.  You don't have to be scared like this *hugs*

Yeah, I wouldn't jump the gun with the mouth cancer thing.  It's probably more that he wants you to be hooked up to an IV form of antibiotics.  I think it's just that the teeth are so close to the brain and he doesn't want an infection to move there.

Did you call the dentist?  If you are this scared you should really not sit at home.  Go to the dentist again or go to your doctor.  Ask if they can go ahead and hook you up to an IV antibiotic. *hugs*  Let us know what happens Surprise

I agree. It can be scary but abscess is usually not related to cancer. I suffered from periapical (tooth root) abscess twice in the past and had to have a small surgery under local lidocaine anesthesia to take the pus out, it's not too painful. But as Karena said, the infection can be dangerous once it travels through bloodstream. Odontogenic infections can sometimes affect heart muscles by its structural similarity with them(human antibodies to the bacteria also attacks the muscles), although very rarely. I hope you have overcome the problem by now.

I agree with the others it indicates infection rather than anything more sinister.  Feeling down (as in your other post) could exaggerate the feeling that something is wrong with you.  When I had DS1 I had a bad cough and convinced myself I was dying of lung cancer.  My mind was not right and I was so scared of leaving my baby without a mum due to my PND (I was not myself and not thinking straight).  The PND can cause major anxiety and exaggerate your feelings.  To be honest if he suspected cancer im sure they would get you in ASAP and not wait.  I know its hard but try not to worry x
