I grew up in a family with 3 girls and a baby brother.  He was born when I was nine.  When my parents called from the hospital, they were thrilled to announce that we had a little brother.  I told them that I didn't want a brother - I wouldn't live in a house with an icky boy.  Well, the instant I saw him, it was a different story.  Growing up, my baby brother was always my little buddy.  We have always been really close.  I believe that growing up in a house with all sisters helped him to become the amazing person he is today.  He is brilliant - a math genius with a degree in physics who can also play any instrument you put in front of him.  He is shy and sweet and very romantic - he proposed to his wife with a plane that flew a banner in the sky and an engagement ring from Tiffany's.  He's the kind of person that parents dream their daughters will marry.  Seriously.  I know it's different coming from the point of view of a sister, but I say this because you will have the same family makeup and I wanted you to see how well it turned out.  From a mother's point of view (despite how much I loved my brother), I too, wanted only daughters and was scared to have boys.  I didn't know how what to do with boys!  You learn very quickly, though, that it really isn't much different.  Especially when they are babies.  I know it's impossible to imagine now, but you will love your little boy as much as you love your daughters - he'll probably even have a special place in your heart.Hearts

awwwwwwww. so cute. I know you want a girl but yes. There is a chance of it being a boy . I had a friend come to the hospital for a scn....seh was only 13 weeks and we saw what we thought were boy bits ...and yes she had a boy. Although, you are very early and it still could be a girl.  I think its way too early to get too upset.

Its funny, Im about to have my first DD which I have wanted for a while but suddenly feel nervous cause I'm so close to my little men. BUT i know everything will be great and I'm sure you'll be fine too. GL!!

Hey Kate. 14 weeks is still very early. I had my first u/s for my daughter at 15 weeks (they were checking gestation). Anyways, there was clearly nothing between the legs. So it's a toss up at this time (you're in a funny window with 14 weeks). GL...hold out hope for a girl.

P.S. But boys are soooooo awesome for so many reasons, so I'm sure you'll love him just as much and your girls will spoil him and treat him like a little king. Love Ya!

Yes I was told at 14 weeks 5 days boy and u could clearly see a penis. I was still in denial though and had several other scans that confirmed BOY. It's hard to guess what your tech saw without a picture.

Its still early.  I have seen many babies nubbed wrong at this gestation.  I would wait until 18-20 weeks for a solid answer on this.

I hate to tell you this but the same thing happened to me when I went for a sonogram at 15 weeks. The told me they "thought" it was a boy. I just knew I was having a girl and wasn't upset but just so suprised!!!! It was my first so at that point I didn't care but I can't imagine how I would have felt if my heart was set on one.

Well...at 19 weeks they did another and it was actually a boy! Now I absolutely can't imagine my life without him :)

 GOOD LUCK!!!!

hi Kate - agree with pps that it seems kind of early and the technician/dr did not seem so sure...  My twin boys were guessed at 13 weeks (dangly bits) but my current boy the doctor said he could not tell until at least 18 weeks. (this was before I had heard of the nub theory) and I know it's awful to have to wait for another two weeks, so my sympathy is with you.  That said, I would like to echo what princess among princes said (think it was her..)  My mom and dad had 3 girls and were done. 9 years later, an oops - another girl. And 2 years after that, their long-awaited boy. Different in that my mom ALWAYS wanted a boy (and cried her heart out with each and every daughter.)  All 4 of the daughters ADORED that baby boy. I think looking back that I was ever closer to him than my baby sister b/c he was so different! He wore new clothes, not hand me downs; had trucks and ambulances and really cool toys that DID things, he did different things than we did, got to have his own bedroom, and was naughty and mischievous, charming and full of life.  Everyone loved him (and still do).  His sisters absolutely marvelled and reveled in him. And yet, because he had 4 big sisters, he did plays and theatre (home-made productions), baked cookies with us, played dress up, loved playing with our pom-poms, and knew all of our cheerleading cheers. Today he is 29 years old, sees my mom every Sunday (more than the rest of the daughters do), has his own photography and website business, makes soap and candles and homemade jewelry as christmas gifts, and dances with me at every single wedding and family event we go to (he is big and strong and lifts me over his head when we re-enact dances from movies..).  He is a truly wonderful creative amazing, sensitive and strong man and I think having such a gaggle of sisters to look after and adore him helped contribute to that.  I know you really want a little girl, so if this doesn't help you feel a little better, I am sorry!

My boys were really obvious at 14 weeks so you're probably having a boy if you seen boy parts.

You'll love a boy..trust me. Boys have a special place for their moms just like girls do...you'll only know if you have one. He's not going to different from you girls, the interests he may have, yes, but the love he'll give you will be exact same that you can't resist it Happy Wink

I'm sorry that you are so upset. I think pg hormones alway make things harder to handle as well.

I must admit to be a little bit excited for you, i am certain that if this is a boy, you will be consumed with love for him, just like with your girls and you will experience the joy of both genders.

I really feel that it will be a good thing for your girls to have a brother so that boys are more familiar to them, it may even save them from experiencing GD in the future if they are mums of boys.

In my experience GD gets better over time and i wouldn't be at all surprised if it disappears entirely for you once you meet your little boy (if it is a boy).
