Hi guys,

Just poking my head in to let you know about a couple of really important articles I just read regarding folic acid...

Firstly, taking folic acid and B12 supps may raise your risk of cancer.

Secondly, taking folic acid supps late in pg may raise your baby's risk of asthma.

I would like to apologize to all those people who I advised to take extra folic acid - as you may know my third son has a neural tube defect and even though I don't trust megadose vitamins as a general rule, I literally spent hours researching folic acid and speaking to my doctor, and every bit of information I had claimed that it was perfectly safe to take. I feel really badly that I may have mislead people on this one.

interesting study, but quite honestly, the first one doesnt mean much to me since they were all smokers. the second study is kind of interesting. i would like to see more before i believe it 100% though.

It's 800 that's recommended in pregnancy, and 400 for people in general. At least, my prenatal has 800 in it and that's what I always remember hearing when people talk about taking folic acid.

The articles are interesting, but I agree with pp - I'm not too concerned about a study showing lots of smokers getting lung cancer. I really doubt it was the folic acid that was the thing responsible for the cancer in those cases.
