Not sure about these Braxton hicks contractions

I feel them lower down first, and they are only a little uncomfortable. I am wondering if the RRL tea would be causing less contractions and therefore making them ineffective at dilating the cervix. Do braxton hick contractions help dilate the cervix? I haven't had any real good contractions and actually want to feel somthing. Okay , I am a nut! I just don't want contractions unless they are actually accomplishing something.

I have no idea...sorry.  But I totally agree.....it's no use having any sort of contractions unless they're doing something!!

This is how it was explained to me:  Braxton hicks and contractions are basically the same thing - contractions.  BH can feel the same, last as long, and sometimes feel like the real thing...The only difference is that BH do not dilate the cervix, and the 'real' contractions do dilate and put you into labor.  Braxton hicks are your body practicing... annoying, but I look at them as a good sign that my body knows what to do in a couple of weeks Happy Wink

RRL is just a uterine toner.  It does not dilate the cervix at all.  It just kind of makes things more effective during labor (not saying less painful, just more effective.  I've heard it can help with bleeding after too)

So, can BH's come at regular intervals then? I am timing mine, all day, and they are 10 - 17 min apart, and lasting 30 seconds each time....I have to watch myself close as the doc does not want me to go into labour due to risk of uterin rupture...I feel like I should have it checked out, but feel silly going, KWIM?? The BH's are even waking me up at night, or the pain is in my dreams.....last night was the first night for that...

REALLY??? I'm so jealous!! LOL.  Lorie.. are you dilated or effaced yet?   I never get contractions, feel like my body is in denial of this pregnancy til evacuation day, LOL. I think I'm about 3-4cm and 70% effaced... was 2cm and 60% a week and a half ago

They say to go to the hosptial at 5-6 mintes apart and lasting 60 seconds long, and you can't talk through them...  I just wish I had one a day, grass is always greener, LOL

Yes, they can come at regular intervals... but a 'real' contraction will start to get longer in length, get closer in frequency and also get stronger or more intense.

Thanks Missy for the tip about when to go to the hospital....My 2nd DS came at 37 weks due to me having the very same kind of contractions I am having now. I  guess when I am due to have a section, the doctors don't want me to go into full blown labour...

I have not been checked either so I have no idea if I am dilating or effaced.  Should I check myself...?

Oh.. yea.. granted you're having a c-section... probably not the best idea to wait til then, LOL. Surprise
I'd try to check yourself, if you can.  We went off on a major tangent on this thread.... "36 weeks 2days: Baby's dropped" about checking yourself, LOL. And a few graphic diagrams... Embarrassed
