I have read a few places to take (1) 3 times a day starting at 38wks.  The capsules aren't as strong and just help regulate contractions... or so they say!!  I bought some at Walmart for $4.. but now I don't know.

Anyone taken the capsules?

I have them already, but I won't be starting them till a week before I go. You are actually supposed to take them in combination with blue cohosh but I have yet to find a store that carries the blue.

Yea.. that's what I read. That they have to be used with the blue to actually send you into labor.... I can't find that either!

Eh... they say you can take the capsules starting at 38wks... but I've also read they can cause blood thinning, very dangerous for labor.. so it makes me really nervous, especially with delivering at a birth center and not a hospital.. eh!!

I tried Black Cohosh when I first came off Depo- to help get my cycle back. When I was researching it, I found a LOT of info warning about the use of BC during pregnancy. If you want to induce labor, I would recommend nipple stimulation. I know it sounds icky and pornographic Stick out tongue, but that's what my midwife had me do for my induction with DS#2

My midwife had me take both in homeopathic form. They are totally safe that way. I have also heard that the herbal forms are dangerous. If you want to try the homeopathic versions, Caulophyllum is blue cohosh and Cimicifuga is black cohosh. I don't know for sure what they did for me, but this was by far my easiest labor and delivery.

I read about the nipple stimulation tactic early on in this pregnancy, I will also be doing that. Most likely I will take small doses of black cohosh and blue if I can find it for 24 hours before the delivery as my OB also suggested limiting the time I take it, but she did not insist I didn't so I am going ahead.

Tanyagirl- nipple stimulation is simply rubbing your hands/fingers on and around your nipples. I think it took me 20-30 minutes until I got some solid contractions. It's best to continue doing the stimulation for a little while (even intermittenly) until contractions are regular. I liked the idea that I didn't have to put anything into my body and it was completely natural (I did, however, elect for the epidural!) Plus, this is something you can do at home, in private. Or, DH could help!
