I am fed up of the stereotyping!!

I've just overheard some collegues at work talking about kids.  One of them said "I can imagine if I had kids they would be brats, so I'll definitely have boys". 

The other day my pregnant co-worker was saying something negative about boys, which I only realised when I heard her say 'yes boys are...' and she quickly stopped when I was walking past and I then heard her say 'oh I almost put my foot in it".  I wouldn't mind but she doesn't even know the sex of her baby yet (I'm secretly praying for it to be a boy now!)

Why do people stereotype!!  Girls can be brats just as much as boys can!  Yes my little boy is a little terror at times and I admit that I do suffer from GD, but I wouldn't swap him for the world.

I just had to vent before I exploded at work!!

TOTALLY agree about gender stereotyping.  It's all about parenting PERIOD.  If you're a crappy or great parent it doesn't mater WHAT the gender is.  See an older post of mine about that here: http://www.in-gender.com/cs/forums/p/124846/1199363.aspx#1199363

However, I can't deny that It's fun when you KNOW some bratty girls and go somewhere with them and everyone in the restaurant is giving them the side eye for raising so much hell and the wait staff and other customers stop by and tell DS how sweet and well behaved he is.

Boys can be brats just like Girls
Girls can throw tantrums and be whiny  just like Boys
Boys and Girls can be sweet and loving if cared for and loved...

THEY'RE KIDS!! The gender has nothing to do with how they will become! Everyone will have the good and bad moments with their kids..no doubt...crazy stereotypes!

Yeah, I don't think people realize that it's all about the child's personality!  I have the sweetest 5 year old son who teachers just love and is kind and sweet.  His kindergarten teacher told me today that she would love a class full of kids just like him!

I am right there with you.  I am so tired of people, especially ones who don't have boys, going on and on about how bratty/difficult boys are.  Children become what you make them.  If you let either gender get away with stuff of course they're going to walk all over you and be difficult. One of the little girls in our neighborhood is the most difficult child I have ever seen in my entire life.  I'd rather have 10 boys than just 1 of her. I can't tell you how many times I've been outside waiting on the bus in the morning just thinking to myself how grateful I am  that I don't have a child like her boy or girl.  She's just everywhere in the mornings.. out in the road, all over people's lawns.  I can't even talk about what it's like when she comes over to play with my boys.  She has an older sister who is just the sweetest little girl, so it's definitely all in the individual child's personality.

It's amazing what people will say in front of you, knowing you have all boys.  I have heard everything from, I enjoyed my girls more then my boys,  girls are more fun, girls are easier, boys are a necessary evil.  Don't even get me started.  I hope your coworker has a boy and realizes how great they are.
