I was told by a friend that if you have a small age gap between pregnancies you are likely to have the same gender, something to do with body chemistry apparently (although she was unable to elaborate further).  Does anyone know if there is any truth in this?  I was thinking of going for another small age gap with my next but I may change my mind if this is the case!

I don't know if this is true but I am also interested.

I have two years between the three of my sons and I am going to ttc next year when my youngest is four so this will be my biggest gap so hoping it is true.

Was true for my mum who has myself and my sister very close together and a five year gap with my brother.

 ds1 and ds2 are 2 yrs apart

ds2 and ds3 are 18 months apart

ds3 and ds4 are 18 months apart

ds4 and ds5 are 3 years apart

My Dad has one brother and one sister and they are all 5 years apart

My Mom has a brother and a sister and they are all 2 years apart

My sister in law has 3 kids (b,g,g) and they are all 1 year apart

I have 3 brothers and my oldest brother is 3 years older than my second brother and the rest of us are all 2 years apart

My dh's fam he has (b,g,b,b) and they are all 2 years apart

That's prob enough examples :)  I really don't think it has a whole lot to dowith it as I think the majority of people try to have their kids about 2 years a part and most families seem to have both genders...

I honestly don't think so. Diet and other lifestyle factors may play a role but not age gap on its own. My mom has 4 years between #1 and #2 and 4 years between #2 and #3-- mixed gender. My friend has two that are exactly 1 year apart-- a boy and a girl. You can point to as many people that this theory "works" for as those it doesn't.

Even though there will always be exceptions- there is definitely some truth in this- there have been posts about it before....

I don't believe age gap has anything to do with gender... unless if you believe the PH factor and even then I think your body would have the same PH level unless you change it with dieting. Just my My Two Cents

your body chemistry does change very some years.. if it changes enough to alter your ph and have a better chance for a different gender.. still a crap shoot..

so I do think there is some truth to it.. but I would think it is a very small percentage.. kinda like adding only one part of a sway into your sway.. wont really tip the scales..

I have also read that the older you are the higher chances of having a girl (by old I mean late 30's/40's) it is true with me I was nearly 39when I had dd

edited to add that I 'really" think that how I got dd is that she was the 6th child and I finally flipped tails instead of heads. XX won the race... where XY were good little swimmers the first 5 times.

I honestly think the more kids you have the likelyhood you will have mix. Sure you could end up with 5 or 6 in a row the same but MOST people I notice, when it comes to having 3 in a row.. 4 is usually the opposite, and if you have 4 in a row, 5 is VERY likely to be the opposite. OF course there is exceptions to the rules.. people like me and those who have more than 5 in a row.

ds1 and ds2 are 18 months apart

ds2 and ds3 will be about 4years

my brother and i are 13 months apart

so i dont think age gap and gender have anything to do with each other. i also think there was a thread about this already.
