when determining boy.. how do they tell the difference?

okay, i know you are probably all sick of calming my mind. and i wish i could say that i have been able to relax, but alas, i can't. i am still having panic attacks over this. i am planning on paying out of pocket for a 3d ultrasound, but i still have to wait 5 weeks for it. i hope the stress doesnt drive me crazy. i have been too afraid to commit to the idea, to buy blue, to name him, get attached to him, etc. i really cant express how much gratitude i feel over all of the "its definitely a boy" comments on my last thread. they have really helped. but i have a different question now. when looking at my pictures, WHAT is it exactly about them that makes it positive that we are looking at a penis and not a cord? obviously i know the difference between a boy shot and a girl shot- but i am trying to figure out what the cord looks like and what the penis looks like. all the "boy" ultrasound pictures i have seen have been so clear, so painfully obvious that it is a boy- and mine is so iffy. it looks like three long lines (i know boys have 3 lines too- but so does a cord!) how can i be positive that this is a penis and not a cord. can somebody please explain to me the difference and really show me what we are looking at. i see no "turtle", no "hot dog" no 3 dots, no scrotum, just something dangling between the legs. and in my second picture.. it really does look like it could be cord since the cord is also in the pic. what am i looking at here?? the tech did give me 95% confirmation at 19 weeks, but she seemed kind of rushed and annoyed when i asked questions. it wasnt the best experience and i wish i could have asked more questions, etc. so anyway, i will attach my pics in the next 2 posts. and then that will be the last time i post them. i really do appreciate all of you ladies and your wise insight. i know nothing about ultrasounds, and i never questioned any of my girl shots, but this time i am just so afraid of this being wrong. please help this momma relax!

thanks, you have been a big help on my other threads! but WHY does that look like a boy to you? do you know of any other boy shots that look like that? i promise i will seek help haha.

Because the cord grows out of the center of the abdomen and a penis grows between the legs. In a toilet shot angle like you have, I really don't see how the two can be confused. They attach at different parts of the body. 

 I can offer you my opinion, but I am no means an expert. My experience with my boys is that you could see their "package" loud and clear! Meaning that it protrudes much farther than any girl ultrasounds (that I've seen). My boys had a definate penis, it wasn't flat, or just a bump, it was out in the darkness floating there..lol....I FINALLY am having a girl (#4) and there is nothing there that looks remotely close to my boys. She has no protrusion, just a bit of a mound or bump, not like a skyscraper y'know? DS2 had cord in some of his ultrasounds, and it was pretty big, and curly sort of, it wasn't this little defined thing. It didn't have a definate shape. I wish I could show you, I don't have a scanner. Plus with DS2 I was confused because I could see 3 lines AND a turtle. I thought for sure they messed up, but no. I would feel assured that you are having a boy, I hope you get the reassurance you need!

however, why do you have to wait 5 weeks for a 3D?  Do they have a timeframe they will only do them from?  If so, you could just fudge your edd a little to make you futher along! 

I know what you are going through...I had a CVS that said girl and I didn't feel confident until I saw her parts on the us a few times!!

The bigger the baby gets, the harder it can be to see anything.  I think approaching 30 weeks things get pretty squished in there.

yeah that is a good point.. hmm.. the only problem is that dh thinks i am crazy for even questioning gender at all and we are actually doing the 3d to get pics of the face, and other novelty type shots. and we are only getting one. we went at 26 weeks in my last 2 pregnancies and got such perfect little facial shots, and gender was still pretty clear (they were girls though) that it has kind of been determined as the set time we'd go. do you think we would get good facial pics at 23/24 weeks?

 all congrats!! Try to relax and enjoy being pregnant with him, you'll be holding him in arms before you know it. I look back now at all the stress and time I spent fretting about my boy being a boy and I wish I would have just relaxed and enjoyed him inside. You've got 2 very clear shots of his goods there, he's not a girl.
