My ds hasThrush!

My ds had thrush! I looked in his mouth this morning and saw the white stuff in his mouth. I immediately knew it was thrush. So I took him to the Dr and got some meds for it. I feel so bad.

It's ok... thrush is a common thing in babies.

Yogurt works really well to cure thrush. You can also freeze it to make it more like ice cream.

Are you using Gentian Violet?  Works well, messy!!

He is only 6 weeks, is this okay for a 6 week old?

Yo can coat the inside of his mouth with yogurt. Just put it on your finger and wipe it all over the inside. There are little microbes in yogurt that kills the thrush. I assume you could use the same technique with the gelatin.

Make sure you treat yourself as well if your breastfeeding, other wise you'll just keep passing it back and forth.

I've had it with all three of mine now, it sucks and hope it clears up for you soon!

I don't know that I'd try yogurt with a 6 week old. I have heard that gentian violet works well but I've never tried it because it apparently stains everything purple. My kids got thrush, and we get a prescription from the doctor that clears it up very quickly. I want to say it's called diflucan but that might not be right. It's been a while since we've needed it.

In any event, don't feel bad. It's very, very common and is just something that happens. I hope he's all better soon!

Gentian violet--you get it at your pharmacy.  It worked for us, and better than prescription meds.  My baby was about 3 mos , it is so, so, so messy, but I was so, so, so desperate and it really cleared it up.  You drop it in his mouth, feed him and it deposits on your nipples.  I was nervous about using it, but I researched it online and it is harmless.  Just messy.

La Leche leaders recommend this for BFing moms w/ thrush, so I felt OK with it.

You wouldn't want to put a spoonful in the mouth but to coat the cheeks and tongue with the yogurt using your finger. My son got thrush a week after he was born, at first I tried to use the liquid medication my doctor gave me to coat and it did not clear it up. When I applied yogurt it did clear up. He got it a couple more times over the following months and I coated with yogurt then too. You don't want to put so much in that they can choke but a coating of it will help and it also has a soothing effect. I agree that you should treat yourself too. If you have it on your nipples you can apply yogurt there as well. It's the best remedy I have found over the years but I have never tried the violet remedy so that may work as well. I hope it gets cleared up soon.

Thanks ladies, I am going to get the yogurt annd gentian violet tomorrow. Do you need a prescription for the gentian violet? If not, on what isle can I find this because it seems as though the liquid meds prescribed by the doc is not working. I think it is called nystain or somthing like that.
