Microsort vs IVF - how did you choose? How long in advance need to prepare?

I really want to go high-tech for baby #2. My GD has been devastating and I can't put myself (or my DH) through this again. And sadly, I don't have much faith in swaying.

I got pregnant with baby #1 through IUI, so I feel like Microsort might work for us? (Then again, by the time I am ready to use it (~2 years) it might not even be available - isn't it's approval almost up?)

Just wondering how you all made the decision of which high-tech technique to go with. Also, how much in advance do you need to start getting paperwork, etc. in? I know for Microsort, I'd need to contact the places in Virgina or CA, right? But for the the IVF, where in the world do I even start? (I live in the Midwest). Is this a topic I even broach with my RE?

I would definately choose IVF if you have the money and are able.  It improves your odds from about 10% - 16% relatively top upwards of 45% - 50% and higher depending on your dr.  Good luck with your decision...it's not an easy one!

I would not pay for IUI. I would do IVF with PGD and get the guarantee if you are that devastated with a first baby.  IUI with a chance of opposite doesn't sound like a good plan for you and the pregnancy rate is horrible.

I completely agree with NuthinBut.

As far as timing, I made my decision in May, did pre-cycle testing in June, cycled in July, and got the BFP in August.  So it can happen rather quickly if you want it to (we cycled with HRC).

Feel free to peruse my blog - I tracked all the planning details in there, so you can see what it takes.  Planning posts start in May of this year.

Good luck!!

Thanks, everyone. How do I go about contacting a facility/provider for IVF? Does everyone just go to VA or CA? Or are tere other options? Do I even ask my RE / OB about this - or best to avoid the topic?
