The AAP even recommends only BF for the first 6 months.
No, not true! The AAP recommends introducing solids around six months, but continuing breastfeeding until at least a year if not longer.

I think she meant that the AAP recommends nothing but breastmilk for the first 6 months- not that you should stop at 6 months!

I was just thinking today how strange it was the Henry and I have both been sick, but Ben hasn't had anything worse than a runny nose...and it occurred to me that maybe he was getting antibodies through my breastmilk to fight whatever it is Henry and I had, and I was very happy for extended nursing.  Love Ya!

Sorry to bump up an older post, but I just spied this.  We are extended nursers........DS1 nursed until he was 2 and I was 5 months pg w/ DS2.  DS2 is going strong at nearly 16 months, but I have lately been experiencing intermittent pain as well.  After a rough start w/ DS1 with the help of a lactation conusltant, nursing was smooth sailing and pain free until he weaned.  DS2 has been a bit rougher, a much bigger appetite and I believe a stronger suck.  That's how I've explained the discomfort to myself anyway.  :o)

I think you might be spot on about hormones though.  I've noticed a pattern recently (AF returned at 11 mos) that around ovulation and again in the days prior to AF's arrival, I get quite a bit of pain.   Don't know if you're experiencing the same, but hormones seem like the likely culprit to me.

Enjoy your little nursling and I hope your pain eases!

Me! I nursed my DD for 31 months (went 12, 18, and 19 months with my others), and plan on practicing CLW again with this one.

"I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that grow up around [the banks] will deprive the people of all property until their children wake up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered. The issuing power should be taken from the banks and restored to the people, to whom it properly belongs" -Thomas Jefferson

No, not true! The AAP recommends introducing solids around six months, but continuing breastfeeding until at least a year if not longer. Here is the relevant part of their very lengthy policy on breastfeeding:

Yes, Mom2RJA, I agree, what I was trying  to say was they recommend exclusively bfing until 6 months (ie no solids/formula before 6 months) and then continuing BFing but adding solids after that.  Guess I should have been careful where I put the "only" in that sentence :)

M2M, I'm sorry if it seemed like I was jumping on your post. I just wanted to make sure nobody reading this thread would misunderstand the AAP position.
