I need a cool book to read to a first grade class. Any suggestions?

My mom is going to read it. SHe is my son's special guest. He likes these scientific books and I know that would put the kids to sleep. So I need help!

I like the book Stellaluna, but it may be a little kiddie for first grade.

well my boys are CRAZY over Diary of a wimpy kid series... not sure if that is a good one though for the class LOL

Alexander, and the terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day.   My first graders loved it, and could totally relate!

Anything by Robert Munsch.

I love Kevin Henkes. I used to be a school librarian, and I read a lot of his books to first graders. Owen or Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse would be good choices, or Chester's Way might be one that fewer kids have already heard. I also love Stephen Kellogg's Pinkerton books, about an out-of-control great dane puppy. My kids also love the Martha books by Susan Meddaugh (the Martha Speaks television series is based on these).

I have not read the other 2 books suggested, but I think Caps for Sale would be perfect. My boys both love that book (even still at 8 years, my older ds loves it!) and they think it's very funny when I act out the shaking of the hands, stomping of the feet, etc. It's a great book for a read aloud!
