My 4 yr. old was just diagnosed with H1N1.  My new baby is 3 weeks old.  We're doing our best to keep them apart but I'm sure the baby has already been exposed.  DS1 was holding him and kissing his forehead just a couple of hours before his fever suddenly came on.  Has anyone heard of a baby this young contracting H1N1?   I'm trying not to overreact but I keep looking at my little baby and worrying about him.  I am breastfeeding but I don't think I have any immunity to H1N1.  None of us have received vaccines yet.   DS1 is doing fine so far.  Just fevers that are controlled with meds.  Thanks for any thoughts!

my 3 year old DD has it and my baby is 4 weeks old. he had a fever so we took him to the hospital where they monitored him. He has not had a fever since and seems fine. My 3 yr old is much better too. we're all on Tamiflu. even the baby because they thought he had it.

Thanks for the replies.  Rebirtha - were you put on Tamiflu because you were sick or as a preventative because of your young baby?

My children's pediatrician thought my husband and I should take Tamiflu now even though we're not showing symptoms of being sick.  I have read different opinions about the safety of Tamiflu while nursing.

I'm glad your children are doing better.  My son is feeling better too.  So far my new baby is okay.  I'm glad to know that babies as young as mine can take Tamiflu if needed.

yes, DH, my older DD and myself were all put on tamifluas a preventative. the only one who had it for sure was my 3 yr ol. possibly the baby but not sure. we don't know the reason for his fever so the tamiflu was to prevent him from getting really sick.

glad your son and baby are doing ok!

My whole house just had it.  My 8 month old had a fever for the first 2 days.  It was pretty high.  I just alternated motrin and tylenol.  I know you can't use motrin with a new baby like yours but you can use tylenol.  We put him in the tub a lot until the fever broke and put a cold washcloth on his head a lot.  He had a runny nose and cough for about 3 days.  It was pretty bad.  now he's only coughing a little and sneezing a little.  I am on tamiflu and nursing him.  I just time the feedings around the dose.  The meds are in the milk most 2 hours after you take it so I give him a bottle then.  I am still nursing him any other time though....

Hope your baby stays well, it's no fun!

Thanks for the info.    Are you dumping milk 2 hours after you take the med?

Yes, I was.  Now there have been times I couldn't pump and I just fed him.  The CDC says it's fine to bfeed on tamiflu so I am not being as strict as I originally was when I started taking it.  I'm almost done.  I have 1 more day....THANK GOD!
