My 8 month old started with the fever on Thursday.  He had it bad throughout the night and the next day.  He was fever free all weekend long.  He had a few coughs and sneezes but nothing really that noticable.  Today he is coughing and sneezing a lot.  No fever as of yet but I am worried one will start up again.  I don't know if I should be worried but I am!  Thoughts?

My baby did not get as high a fever or as long as the other boys--boys were at 103.6 and it would go down, then reappear.  The baby however, did not have the recurrent fever, BUT he had a terrible cough and lots of mucus.  I was worried too, and called the ped office alot, but they were so slammed with so many kids being sick, I was always assured not to worry unless his fever was 102+.

Baby is lots better, but the cough is really hanging on.  Hopefully yours is over the fever part, it is so hard to see your baby burning up.  I was also told not to give Motrin, only Tylenol for all the kids, which was hard because the Tylenol didn't seem to knock the fever back.  But we are over the worst, it just takes WEEKS to get over the hacking, mucusy cough.

why in the world did they tell you that? Confused Huh?  Motrin is the only thing to bring the fever down.  Our doctors insisted on it.  That's odd!

ETA...both are not great to give for long periods of time but Tylenol is a liver killer.  I swear!  A few years back ds's liver was all messed up because he had an illness and we were giving him tylenol round the clock for it.  He had blood work done to see why he wasn't getting better and it showed his liver numbers were off.  I was so scared so I shy more away from tylenol then motrin.  Although both are processed by the liver.  You just hear more issues with tylenol...

I know...the Motrin thing upset me too, because the Tylenol did not work well enough.  My doctor's line of thinking is that the body needs some fever to beat down the virus!  So, I try to do what he says, but I COULD NOT help it and I defied him when my 5 and 4 year old were suffering.  He says Motrin works too well.

Sometimes I want to switch doctors but supposedly he is the best in the city.  But really, sometimes I wonder...he refused to carry or administer the H1N1 vaccine, thought it better to gain natural immunity.  Keep in mind, these are his words, not mine!(about the vaccine)

We saw a doctor at the urgent care once who was very old school.  He didn't believe in Motrin at all.  He was an old Navy doctor and he bascially made me feel bad for ever giving motrin.  I mention him to the other doctor in that practice when I had to bring my child back after they were not getting better and the other doctor said "don't believe that man...he's old school and nuts.  Thankfully he will be leaving soon"...LOL!  So I guess the "new school" believes in fighting the fever with motrin.  I think the doctor is right though and the fever does kill the virus...or at least help kill it...but the problem with swine flu is the fever gets so high you don't want to risk your child going into seizures because the fever is not under control.  Even on Motrin my kids still ran at least 101 and that has to be helping the fight.  I would not take the temp when it got really high because the number would freak me out.  I did take it when they felt "cooler" and that was around 101....so I bet my kids got to 104 or higher!  Insane!
