Mochagirl -

It worked! I fed Andrew at 6pm and put him to bed at 8pm without feeding him again. He cried for about 15 minutes but then fell asleep on his own. He slept until 4am!!!! I got up and nursed him for about 10 minutes then got him back to sleep. I was back in bed by 4:15. Just in enough time to fall asleep before the alarm went off at 5:30am. So he really didn't need that extra feeding to get him to sleep and he slept great. Not a peep out of him!

Hey let us know how Ryan's appt went today!

To all 4 month old mommies-

How often do you fed your baby? Andrew gets fed every 3 hours during the day. A friend of mine, who has a 5 week old, can't believe I am feeding him so often. She is feeding her DD 5-6oz and expects her to go 5-6 hours during the day. I don't even go 5-6 hours between meals/snack during the day! And is already expecting her to go 8 hours at night.

I'm glad he slept so well last night. Does he stay awake between 6 and 8 - I guess I misunderstood you before - I thought you put him to bed earlier, then woke him at 9 or so to nurse before.  Maybe if you push that 6pm feeding to 7pm, you could just put him to bed then and avoid having to let him cry when you put him down.  Or maybe I'm just confused...wouldn't be the first time! Stick out tongue

As for frequency of nursing during the day - I generally nurse on demand, but a definite schedule is emerging.  He usually nurses when he wakes up at 6ish (then he goes back to sleep afterwards), around 10am, 1pm, 4pm, 7pm, then once when he wakes up in the night. Some days he nurses a bit more often, especially if I've had to rush one of our nursing sessions because I had to get his older brothers off somewhere.

Ryan's appointment went well today.  He's 16.28 lbs and 27 inches long.  I think he's going to be ttaller than his brothers, who were about 4 inches shorter at this age.  He took his shots well, and hasn't been fussy at all since.

I don't really put him to bed, most of the time he just falls asleep before 8pm. I have been trying to get him to eat later in the evening instead of 6pm. I told his daycare teacher Friday to see if he could hold out a  little longer or just move all his feedings up a little. Seemed to work on Friday, but the weekend we all were out of whack. He ended up getting a fever again this weekend. But then all the sudden last evening it went away and stayed away. Sounds like Ryan nurses about every 3 hours also. My friend thought it was crazy I nursed so often.

I am glad Ryan's appt went well. He is a big boy! Well at least compared to my little fella, but Andrew is at the bottom of the growth chart so any 4 month old is going to be bigger! LOL! He is 12.10lbs and 23.5 inches. His brother might have been a pund or so heavier at this age.

Hope you had a good weekend and Halloween!

Mocha I'm so sorry I forgot about Ryans visit! I just wen in search to see how it went. He's not that much bigger than Kayla. All my DC have been tall at this age.

As for nursing. Kayla nurses every 2-3 hours. I'm noticing more of a pattern. Although today it seemed like she nursed for a few minutes and then 1 hr later she was ready to eat again? It wasn't her norm that's for sure but I do nurse on demand. If I thin she's hungry then I offer it!

makelifeasier I can't believe your friend expects a newborn to go that long! They have such tiny little stomachs too! I hope the baby is thriving ok.

Both DH and I are quite short, and come from short families, so I was surprised to hear Ryan's length.  My other boyshave always been below the 50th percentile for height, and I think Ryan's height puts him in the 90th or something.  Maybe wehave basketball player genes hiding in our background somewhere! Happy Giggle

We're still nursing on demand too - nothing but the best for my little man!  Ryan went through a little phase over the past couple of weeks where he was waking up 3 times in the night (around 11, around 2 then again at dawn) to nurse, but last night he only woke up once at about 2:30, then slept until after 7.  It was nice to have a bit more rest.

Mochagirl, we seem to be having the same problem. Andrew is getting up more often at night now, about 12am then again at 3am. I don't nurse him except at 3am. We ended up putting him in bed with us at 12am. He fell right back to sleep once we did that. Guess he just wanted the comfy coozy warm bed. I am noticing when I feed him at 6:30 before we head out the door for work, he will only nurse for 5 minutes. Then he gets distracted and won't nurse anymore. And lately he seems to be using my nipple as a chew toy. Ouch! I am wondering if I try to cut out the 3am feeding if he will eat better at 6:30. His feeding schedule is getting all out of whack lately. The doctor wants him on bigger bottles at daycare. He has fallen off the growth chart over the past couple weeks. I am hoping it is just because he has been sick. He did finally get his 4 month shots on Friday. He ended up with a fever from them and two sore legs.

Sugar/Mochagirl- either of you start cereal yet? We are trying to hold off but he sure is smacking his lips when we eat and cried like he wants some too.

Ava is still exclusively breastfed. I don't really pay attention to how often she nurses because she nurses on demand still.  She goes to bed at about 9 every day and will wake 2-3 times durnig the night to eat for a very short amount of time then goes right back to sleep.  She is typically up by 8 am but doesn't eat until 9 usually and that feeding is a bottle of expressed milk (I go back to work in a week so I am trying to use bottles a few times a day during the hours I will be gone at work).  So from 9-4 she usually eats a total of about 5 oz in a bottle plus maybe nurses a bit as well.  After 4 I nurse her a few times before bed.

I think I am waiting until 6 months, I did with the other kids and depending on her 4 month appointment I think I will wait.

I'm definitely waiting until at least 6 months to introduce solids - I did the same with my other boys.
