If you've had H1N1 in your house and have baby......UPDATE, I spiked a fever last night....
|
|
Please help me.... I'm scared sick. I feel like throwing up!
My husband is taking DS#1 to doc to be tested, he has cough and high fever! They wanted him in for the baby's sake....ran down a list of do you have this or this...and hit baby and scared me to death.
My oldest held him yesterday and hugged him...then by bed time he had a fever (oldest)....soo baby was directly exposed! He is 2 months old and I'm terrified!
If you dealt with it, please share.... I need to either feel better or prepare as best I can for baby!!! Please help!

I'm sorry you're so scared, sweetie. H1N1 hasn't hit us yet, but I have a feeling little Ryan will catch this at some point before he's old enough for the vaccine. The baby of a close friend of mine has it right now. She's older - 9 months - but she's been fine other than fussiness andbeing more tired than usual. For the last week she hasn't wanted to sleep in her crib, but sleeps fine if she's in bed with her Mom. It's lasted about a week, and she's almost better now. They got Tamiflu prescribed for her, and my friend said it was like a miracle drug - as soon as she took it she started to perk up and have more energy. I'm not sure if Tamiflu is approved yet for use under 6 months, but there was talk of rushing that through, so ask your doctor about it. Also, I saw a news story that although many pharmacies are running out of children's Tamiflu, they can mix the contents of the adult's capsules with syrup in the right doses - but not all pharmacies will do this. Good luck - hopefully your little guy will be fine. I don't know whether or not you're breastfeeding, but if you are you'll be amazed at how much extra immunity that will give him. My older boys were really sick all last week, and kept touching Ryan's face, kissing him, playing with his soother, etc. - and he never caught it. Regardless, I'm sure he'll be fine even if he does get the flu - it's mild, and at most it will probably just mean some sleepless nights for you. Good luck!!

Both my boys were tested and confirmed with H1N1, just this last week and I was SCARED to death that Evelyn was going to get it. I figured that there was no way she couldnt have, since the boys are always kissing her and loving on her. Well, after we got back from the ER, I had my mom take Evelyn for 3 days, until the flu was almost gone. I got sick with it, and was able to get on Tamiflu (ABSOLUTE lifesaver) and still able to produce the antibodies and give it to Evelyn through my Breastmilk. If you have a sore throat or cough, call your doc and tell them that you need Tamiflu asap because the last person who wants this is you, because you will be caring for the baby the most, and most docs understand that, and will call in a prescription. The doc also said that it is no longer contagious 24 hours after the fever breaks, and the best thing you can do for the baby is breastfeed, and keep them isolated away from the rest of the family if possible. Then go through your house and clean EVERY thing with Lysol towels, and continue to wash hands and have Purell readily available at all times.
Hope that helps!

I'm pretty certain my boys and I had the H1N1 flu - we at least had some sort of flu, but were never tested. The 3 of us had all the classic symptoms and it was going around in DS1's classroom. However, Madalyn and DH didn't get sick! I was so sure she would but she didn't. Dr. said it was likely b/c she's breastfed. So just keep nursing and washing hands a lot. I hope he doesn't get it!

Thank yall so much...it was not the flu!!! He tested negative for both reg and swine...THANK YOU, JESUS! BUT... still have to keep baby away from brother. I don't feel so well right now..headache. That was ds's first complaint! This scare has made me want to get the flu shot for us all! Sigh.... I've been on the fence about it this year. I skipped the flu vax last year and we did fine..then came swine. I appreciate your help...I was in a major panic mode. Dh teased me whe I started crying w/ releif at the negative results. Then what do I do..I doubt the results and start wondering can you test negative one day and have a more positive the next day?

I know things are looking up which is fantastic but I wanted to add that we all had it when tiny-face was only 7 months and we're all fine. Alot of the bubba's that are really at risk have under lying health problems. It was horrid horrid horrid at the time and I really sympathize with you I just wanted to add to the 'try not to worry too much, hope you all get better soon' thing xxx

Okay....I'm confused!!! I am sick, spiked a high fever last night, sore throat, major body aches.....feels like the flu to me?!!
Can you test negative on the flu tests? Like if he wasn't creating enough mucus to test? or it wasnt' there? Like we took him too soon?
Help!

The rapid test can come back as a false negative. Many pediatricians around here are no longer even testing for H1N1.
The best thing that you can do is use proper handwashing and hygeine. Keep the sick big boys away from baby as much as posisble and keep on nursing bub. He will probably be fine.
We had H1N1 and the fever was the worst part. I rotated btw motrin and tylenol to keep the kids comfortable. I also had to get a good cough med from my ped for DS as his cough was yucky.
Try not to worry too much. It isn't life threatening unless there are underlying health conditions or it goes unmanaged. So if baby were to start coughing or running high fever you should take him to the dr. They will tell you what to do.
Get some rest!!! Hope that you feel better soon.

Southernbelle:It isn't life threatening unless there are underlying health conditions or it goes unmanaged exactly! Try not to worry too much, although I know it's easier said than done.... Southernbelle:and keep on nursing bub.
DEFO! I nursed Ds all the way through my swin-flu dark days and he hardly got it, much milder than mine and DH, how weird is that! Immune system-tastic!
