My little one has allergy to milk soy protein so he was put on nutramigen. He didnt tolerate that well either (had constant bloody stool) so we are now on Elecare a amino acid based formula. He has now developed bad acid reflux can anyone tell me if Neocate is any better? Or has anyone tried Nutramigen AA?

Hi Josephine.  You're baby boy is so big now and so cute.  I don't know enough about the specialty formulas, but are you seeing a GI dr for his problems?  We had great drs work with my kids reflux problems.  I'm sure that they can recommend what's best given his problems.

I'm so sorry that he's having so much feeding trouble.  That is so frustrating for mommy to go through.  Maybe someone else on here has more experience with special formulas.  I hope that you find the perfect one.

If the Elecare is working for him allergy wise then maybe the doctor could prescribe him a medicine for the acid reflux. My oldest DS was Lactose Intolerant so we used Soy Formula but he also had acid reflux and the doctor gave me a prescription for  the acid reflux, I had to give it to him twice a day before he ate if I remember correctly.

Southernbelle you are so funny this is a pic of my oldest son at 5-6 months old Stick out tongue. My newborn is now one month old. Yes we are seeing a GI dr that done a scope on him this past week. We had biopies done to confirm allergies but they are not back yet. He is also on Pepcid and that isnt helping him very much. Anyone know if he could benefit from noncaloric thickeners? We just started Elecare 2 days ago so I will have to talk with them early Monday morning to find out what my other options are. Just thought that maybe someone out there had some experience with one of these formulas. Thanks ladies for the response.

DOH, sorry.  I can't keep track of how old everyone's babies are around here.  Sorry.

Well, I hope that the test results tell you something.  I know that reflux alone can cause blood in stool.  My kids tried lots of meds for reflux.  We ended up with either Zantac or Prevacid.  So it could be as easy as finding the right med for him.

Let us know what you figure out.

My son had the exact same thing...nutramigen was aweful, nothing worked except for elacare...it was wonderful..now he is 15 months and totally fine, he's over his allergy and can have regular milk...best of luck!

My son is also on Elecare since he self weaned at 13 months. He is now 2 1/2. The elecare works great for him, he has problems for a few days after starting it, I think just getting the other allergens out of his system. At first the dr. switched him from milk to soy and then realized he is also allergic to soy since he was then spitting up and having diarrhea, so we went to a child allergist and they put him on Elecare. I would stick with it and see if a few more days helps out, if not maybe treating the reflux also will work. My allergist told me elecare was better than neocate... and i didnt ask why, wish I could help more! Good luck!
