Yes, that's right - to be qualified for MS/IUI, the motility must be over 50%...so you are right there.  i'm not sure if the requirements are the same for IVF/MS.  If you are certain that you want to do the IUI, there are a few ways to increase sperm motility, but it takes lots of work, persistance, and is will require your husband to drink a hot glass of "tea" called Proxeed every morning and night.  We tried it and it worked, but was exhausted.  I'm glad that we have moved on to IVF/PGD so that we don't have to worry about motility and all that anymore.  But as I said, there are things you can do.  There's also something called "fertility blend" that helps too...and vitamins for DH.

You should be fine because his total sperm count is really high. I posted this before, but I was told by MS that these are the requirements:

For MicroSort IUI, 140 million TOTAL sperm (assuming normal motility)

For MicroSort ICSI 70 million TOTAL sperm (assuming normal motility)

If motility is below normal then reviewed on a case by case basis.

Normal motility is 50%. So an acceptable sample is 70 million motile (140 million total with 50% motility). Your husband's sample was 675 million with 30% motility, which means 202 million motile, far more than the 70 million required for MS/IUI. You should have no problem. My own husband's motility was lower than 50%, but his count was high enough that he still had more than 70 million motile. That's the number that really matters.

I would say you are definitely fine for IVF and probably would have been fine even for IUI with his high count.

Thanks for clarifying all this. I think it's so fascinating the way these SA's turn out for men who have fathered multiple children with little effort. Like, maybe someone has a relatively low sperm count, but the sperm are all super healthy, motile, well shaped, etc., and then someone else has such a high count that there are enough able-bodied sperm to knock you up, even if the majority of the sperm aren't performing optimally.

I agree that it's really fascinating. When my husband had his SA, something like only 6% had normal morphology. I freaked out when I saw that. I was sure MS would turn us down. But they didn't bat an eye at that. They really only care about the count and the motility. Still, it's amazing to me that 6% normal morphology is enough to quite easily father three perfect children!
