I have pretty bad preterm labor with my babies.  I have been able to hold them in until 35 weeks, and they have all been remarkably healthy.  I am considering MS/IVF/PGD and don't really want to chance the failure of a SET.  But of course, the risk of twins might be worse.

So my question is did any of you twin mammas have preterm labor with your singletons?  If so, was it a lot worse with the twins?  I'm just wondering if there is any chance of me making it to a healthy enough stage with a twin pregnancy since I have a preterm labor history.  Thanks in advance!

This is a good question.  I had no issues with preterm labor but my twins came at 34 weeks suddenly.  I think twin pregnancies are soooo different then singleton pregnancies.  Given your history this is something very serious to consider and weigh the pros/cons.  My vote would be for you to do several SET cycles to start if you can because twin pregnancies are difficult, unpredictable and have a much higher risk of complication and pre-term delivery.   However, I know that feeling of desperation to get pregnant with the gender of your dreams coupled with the high cost of multiple IVF/PGD/MS cycles can skew or change a person perspective on what they can handle or risk.  My vote would be to be sure to discuss with your RE these issues/preterm labor history and get their opinion.  Please keep us posted on what you decide and how you went about making your decisions.    TJ

Ummm, YES!  This was me.  I truly truly did not think it was at all likely the two blasts we transfered would result in twins.  Although we had decided upfront we'd rather risk twins than a BFN.  But still!  Can you imagine that I was disappointed on ET day not to have *three* to transfer??  (Not that Dr. P would have allowed that, lol.)
