Is Luella an old lady name?
|
|
if you love it then go with it. It is an older sounding name but there's nothing wrong with that. Some people have told me that they hate our choices of first and middle name Olivia Eleanor, but we know how much we love the name and other people aren't our focus. If they don't like it then they should name their own children. I love Lulu as a nickname, have a world of warcraft character named Lulu (lol) and I think she will love her name.

it is an old lady name but that isn't a bad thing!! I love old lady old man names!! Old names are very "in" very orginal without making up a trendy name kreightive name(I am a name nerd trust me on this!)
Last summer I met a little Pearl, Matilda is sky rocketing up the baby girl name charts. (check the UK it is already in the top 20 and what is popular there will be here) Maude has hit the top 1000 for the first time in decades. Arabella/Isabella/Annabelle etc... you get the picture are SUPER popular. Ella/Emma/Clara. Eleanor, Evelyn, Penelope (all back with a vengence!) (I think Penelope Jane may be the next Emily Grace/Ava Grace/ Emma Grace top combo) Adeline/emmeline/ Adalaide/ you see where I am going! Irene Iris, Irena.
So I think your little Luella is going to fit in just perfect with all the other little old lady girls in her class HAHA! I think it is an awesome name! And goes great with the Bros.

dream:So I think your little Luella is going to fit in just perfect with all the other little old lady girls in her class HAHA! LOL... too funny Our grandmothers would be so proud...
I look at the top names from 1880... and so many are popular right now.. Luella isn't on the list but definitely in the same genre.
I know it's old... but by old lady, I mean yucky old lady... Mildred, Agnes, etc

So, I actually like Mildred & Agnes. The only old lady name I hate is Martha. I just don't like it for no good reason. I even think Ethel, Vera, Naomi, are all kinda nice. I don't like Martha. I also don't like Nancy, but that's a little more modern.

My old lady name I don't like is Matilda and Maude and it is RISING really fast. I dont' mind the french Mathilde and Maude way of saying them though LOL so go figure!
I think Luella is going to be SUPER Adorable on a little girl, and for an adult, well she is going to be an adult with all the Kaylee's Addisons, Ella's, Matilda's, Annabelle's, Madisons and Mackenzie's.... all those names WILL be adult names and not so "little girlish" when they are grown. It won't seem any different than the names of the generation we all grew up with and have survived LOL. Besides she has the options to use Lu, Lulu, Ella, even Elle as nicknames if she chooses. I personally have the full first name of Deena-Lee, which I dislike very much but have gone by Deena, Deen, Dee, (mainly Deena) for 40 nearly 41 yrs. It doesn't bother me I have to put Deena-Lee on all official documentation because it is just on those that I actually have to use it....
Here is a funny thing, my middle name is Constance (one of the old lady names mentioned above) I hated how old it was when I was younger and would tell everyone my middle name was Lee (like every second girl of my generation HAHA) now I kind of like it.

I have an Adelaide and people told me they thought it was an old lady name....I don't care in the slightest. WE mainly call her Addie so it's not relevant.
I'd rather an old lady name then a name that looks and sounds made up. But that is my personal preference for my family IYKWIM?

It is old fashioned but I like it! You have to remember that when these names first came around they were being given to little girls not old women. We just associate them with old women because they are from a different generation. My boys all have old fashioned sounding names, DS3 has the same first name as my grandfather. I adore Lulu and Ella was my paternal grandmother's name--love it too! Luella will be the only one in her class with this name and it will set her apart in a good way. I say go for it!

It's funny you mentioned Lyla.....I was going to suggest that instead. I think that name is coming back! Just my own opinion, but yes I think Luella sounds like an old lady name. Ella sounds younger though. In fact, I know someone who just had a baby and named her Ella Grace.

I like it , it may eb what people would consider an "old lady name" but they are coming back in style like crazy I believe. Lucille, Eleanore, Harlow, LillianCharlotte, Lilah, etc.. are all being used a lot and they used to be considered old fashioned. I think Lulu is super cute. My ds calls me Lulu ( because he can't say Lilly correctly)

MissysLair: BananaPants: does not remind me of an old lady, however, It does sound to me like a redneck. Sorry, just being honest sweetie, if you like it yours is the only opinion that matters. LOL... now LouAnne... now that sounds redneck. But I'm a small town farm girl (and she will be too) .. so I don't mind, LOL
lol, you are so funny Missy. I don't think Luella could ever be a " redneck" name

I think it is adorable! But the pp was right, you would totally have to have the right middle name with it. Love the nickname Lulu though
