and we're IN! Now I'm more confused than ever, sadly. I was *SO* sure we were going to be denied that I wasn't even thinking about MS...I thought the decision about whether to use it or not was made for me...and now, not so much! We are going to have a sit down about it all tonight when DH gets home but man...I'm so unsure about what to do!!! Just IVF/PGD or add MS???? Decisions, decisions....
BTW, is the $100 enrollment fee new???

Congrats. Curious why did you think you would be denied?

Congrats. Curious why did you think you would be denied?
DH was born with bilateral hernias that were surgically repaired when he was 6 months old. We had heard from a couple of people that those were usually grounds for denial. Even Cindy at Dr. Potter's office said it was unlikely that we would be approved (we were still awaiting the call when I spoke with her y'day).

I had the same thoughts about just doing PGD and not MS but I ended up not having a choice. I need MS. Dr. P and I thought I would be a great responder to meds and I wasn't. The first cycle was cancelled and the second one I had 12 eggs 8 mature 5 fertilized and today after 3 days 3 left. Without MS it doesn't leave you alot to work with.
You could always see how your cycle is going and once you have an idea on how many eggs they expect to get that are mature take it from there. It is so nice to know you are approved at least in case you do need it.
Good Luck!

Are you only doing PGD for gender selection or to prevent a birth defect? I just went through IVF/ICSI/PGD/Microsort and I wanted a son. I had 5 eggs make it to blast stage and all 5 were boys so it helps your odds. If you really want a girl I would go for it!! Microsort is the the only thing that doesnt hurt anything. I would add ICSI as well if you are onna do it go all the way

As far as not having much to work with if you get to day 5 and all are boys are you gonna leave them behind and do another cycle for a girl? I transferred 2 boy embies had an eptopic as a result. Then tried 2 more cycles and never made enough eggs to transfer in next 2 cycles. I am now pregnant 100% on my own and it took me spending $35,000 and a lot of disappointment to realize if god wants me to have 4 girls then that's fine with me!! Glad I went through all the heart ache to come to this realization, I truly am!!

I see. Well I am glad that you were not denied as hernias don't seem to be a birth defect worth noting in my opinion. Hope your consults go well.

Hi, bullielover. Yes, we will be doing PGD strictly for gender selection. Regarding your other question about the scenario of all embies being boys, no, we would not transfer boys, so we'd either start over with another cycle or we'd be done and my dream would die at that point.

It sounds like we're in about the same place. I, too, had expected to be denied by MS and suprisingly was accepted! We think we're going to go for it and do MS/IVF/PGD at HRC with Dr. P (fyi, they always add ICSI at HRC I believe). I have my consult with him the first week of Nov. My reasons for wanting to include MS, since I can, are (1) to help improve the odds that this works the first time, and (2) to help avoid having to discard embryos just because they are male.
Congrats!
