I had this so bad with DS 3 it was ridiculous.  I ended up taking 1/2 a zyrtec only when I absolutely completely could not stand it.

The crazy thing is, this pg I have not had allergies much at all, even my normal seasonal allergies.  Each pg is so different!!!

I had nothing when I was pg with DS and have not had any allergies since.  I'm guessing it is not possibly girl related (always looking to prove to myself it may be a girl) since you had it with DS3.  I literally feel like it is just wiping me out- I feel horrible and exhausted from it..... I am trying to just deal with it but thought maybe I could use the zyrtek eye drops at least....

I take Claritin (generic is Loratadine) for my allergies when pregnant.  The doctor said it was fine.  It's a pretty mild medication, though, so it just takes the edge off for me.

BTW, my allergies completely went away during my pregnancy with DS, but have been unaffected in this pregnancy.

Yep, we're miserable here too, me and 2 of the kiddos have hayfever. The kids are taking Claritin everyday and what helps me is to use the Neti Pot 2x everyday. You wouldn't believe how it's helped me! I heard about it on Oprah a couple yrs. ago and have been using faithfully ever since. Since using it I haven't needed antibiotics and very rarely allergy meds. They sell them at Wal Mart or Walgreens, I like the blue pot one:

There's no medicine in these, right?  Isn't it just water/steam that goes through your nasal passage to clean it out?  I've heard they're very uncomfortable...

I just called my dr and he said it was completely safe to take Zyrtek- does anyone think otherwise???

Renee- so you mean by "unaffected" that you ARE suffering with this pg?  Maybe it is a girl thing... it just feels like this pg is tougher than with DS (I know I could not even imagine carrying 2) - I mean everything is worse- m/s, skin breakouts, hair falling out, headaches, exhaustion, now horrible hayfever.... with DS I had none of this and in fact had the opposite - clear skin, thick hair, lots of energy and felt great!  If this is a girl I guess I can say I endured for her... if it turns out to be a boy....Surprise

The Neti Pot is just a salt-water solution, no medicine. I had terrible allergies this past spring and used it for the first time. It takes a little getting used to, but it's a great natural way to keep your passages clean if you want to avoid meds.

I think if your doc says go for it, then it's fine to take the Zyrtec. Hope you feel better.

It's just warm water mixed with salt that cleans out your sinuses. It was uncomfortable the first couple times only, just because it's very weird having water go in your nose, kwim? I think that link I posted shows a video of someone using it.

Zyrtec makes me and the kids feel stoned, so we don't like it. We use Claritin (wal mart brand) or Alavert.

Yep, my allergies are just as bad as normal for this time of year.  Luckily it's not the spring...This pregnancy has been worse all around for me, too, but I don't know what is a girl factor and what is a twin factor.
