bbotkins:I'm from originally from CA though
Ok bbotkins, you got me second guessing my theory - so I did some serious research on this matter. Check this out;

This guy is pretty hot, so he must know what he is talking about. Ultimately I have come to the conclusion that you are from Southern Cali.

I have aways said "soda"...it still sounds funny to me to hear my dad refer to it as "pop" which he does 100% of the time.

That was a pretty cool article. I didn't know so many people called it "pop." I haven't heard that much except for my grand parents, they're from Chicago, so I guess that's why. My father says coke though, must have picked it up in CA.
I was born in San Jose My moms from Fresno and she says coke too.

I voted other, I'm in Alabama and I've found that down south everything is referred to as "Coke" or around here " A Drink" you ask someone if they want a drink and they'll say sure get me a coke, dr.pepper, ect... My grandfather was from Nebraska though and everything was pop, so when I was little I remember asking for a pop.

jennaesue:My friend from Lancaster County and I would argue about this in college...how funny that one state could be so divided! That friend lives in Pgh. now, I'll have to ask what she calls it these days! Well I am in Bucks county( a little more south than Lancaster county) and this boggles my mind....Call me stupid....but for some reason I thought that the word "pop" was only used in the 50's and 60's...and not used anymore. To think that people in my own state use this word still today......... like I said........boggles my mind. I definitely need to travel more...LOL!!!!! Obviously I don't get out much...

Most people around me say pop. For me though.. everything is either coke (pepsi, coca cola, etc) sprite (clear stuff like sierra mist, 7up, etc) and everything else falls under pop. It drives my husband nuts.

This is too funny...here in LA, it's NEITHER
Everything is Coke (even Sprite, Dr. Pepper, etc)
Hey, you want me to get you a Coke doesn't just mean Coca Cola

Same here in North Georgia. I get so confused!! But I say soda.

In Maine it is soda. I have never heard anyone around here (other than visiting tourists) call it pop.

jennaesue:In Western PA it's definitely pop! I guess if you go farther east it turns to soda?
It seems like the south just says coke. I tend to specify what I want b/c I'm a pepsi girl, but I do tell my hubby coke and he knows that I mean pepsi. But yeah, we don't say pop or soda.
