We use the real names but the boys make up there own just to be silly. Once our girl is here though, I'm not sure. We've never had to talk about "girl parts".

I use both real and nicknames. When my dd was little I called it her privates. Shes now almost 13 and we talked about everything. I dont want her to feel embarresed or ashamed. When i had my period i was so shy with my mom when I needed pads or tampons I would say I need some of those you knows.
With my boths we say weiner and balls. But they know its a penis and testicles.
I'm really open with ALL my kids I want them to be able to come to me with anything:)

We call the vagina a penny and a penis a doodly doo! They know what there real names are but we just use our nick names because it sounds a bit more innocent.

We've always used the word penis, but the boys learned "weiner" from friends and they think it's a funny word, so they say that when they're being silly, but they usually say penis. I have no idea what we'll do about girl parts. Having a girl is all new to us and we haven't given a word to her parts yet. The boys have just discussed that she doesn't have a penis, but not what she does have. It seems like everyone says vagina, but that isn't technically correct if you are talking about the external parts you can see. Then it should be "vulva". But nobody uses that word, and I don't really want to either! But it seems silly to make the choice to use "proper" terms and then use the wrong one. So I don't know. I grew up calling it my bottom. That was my "front bottom" and my butt was my "back bottom." Boys had long bottoms and girls had short bottoms.

If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that grow up around [the banks] will deprive the people of all property until their children wake up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered. The issuing power should be taken from the banks and restored to the people, to whom it properly belongs" -Thomas Jefferson

I taught my boys to say penis, and when my son asked what do girls have I said a vagina, he said oh a chacha.. And I corrected him. I think this will help him later when he goes through puberty to be self aware and comfortable talking with me. I think that when you make a nickname it shows that you are not comfortable saying the real part and makes for an uneasy situation later. Just my opinion.

I taught my kids the proper names, so that they got used to it. I find now that they are at school, they use nn's, and that's fine, at least they know what they're supposed to be called.

I use both. For me using the proper terms though helps make it a little more serious when having talks. Plus it is a little harder (imo) to make fun of & joke about the proper terms/words. I mean penis and vagina are no where near as funny as willy, doodle, v-jay-jay etc. So yeah, I use both but depending on the setting (silly or serious lol).

I am pretty generic with my 2 and 3 yr. old- I say bottom for the front area and a butt is a butt. I have told my 4 and 6 yr. old the term vagina and they do know that is where a baby comes out. I don't use the word much though. I guess it would be shocking if my 2 yr. old said "vagina' in public. The other day we were out school shopping and she noticed my MIL's breasts and said, boobie and kept trying to touch her. I think I will be reviewing the correct term with my older 2 when the subject comes up-like when I have this next baby. I told my 6 yr. old once that boys and male animals have penises.

We say girl parts and boy parts here. When we need to go into more detail we'll use proper names (vagina, labia, penis) but right now my dd knows she has "girl parts" and her brother has "boy parts".
2/05 she lights up my life
2/09 he brings me pure joy

Classic_Movie_Queen:I've taught them the real names. The boys have come up with many colorful nicknames on their own, though, and DD sometimes calls hers "My China", because she can't pronounce vagina My girls have called it their 'China' for a while now too! Imagine their surprise when we watched Mulan and the Huns invade China We have since moved on to 'Vagina' which they usually pronounce 'Gina'. I think I've mentioned the word penis, but we haven't had a need to dwell on it (FREUDIAN SLIP: I first typed 'swell on it' ) Anywho, I have no problem teaching them the word penis. I much prefer it to what DD has referred to as a 'flippy heiny'. Yeah, I'd rather they say penis than that any day!
