What method do you use to keep housework and/or kids' chores organized? Index cards, lists, etc.?

My kids are at grandparents' this week, and I am determined to get the house organized while they're gone!  What system do you use to organize housework and chores for yourself and your kids?  I am prone to get "perfection freeze" where I spend hours trying to perfect a system then never actually use it.  (Which is why I am posting this instead of doign something right now.)

I use chore charts (you can get at staples) write down all of their responsibilities every day.  including personal hygene.  They get a check or sticker if it is completed.  If they complete most (like 25 out of 30 ) they get their allowance at the end of the week.  I also think a bin for each of the kids for homework when they get home they place anything from school for you and their homework in their bin.  Then you check it when you want to .  Good luck.

Well, my son is too little to help with chores quite yet, but for myself I just pick one day a week (say a Thursday) to clean the house. I start in the kitchen and work my way to the livingroom and the bedrooms and bathrooms. I am pretty fast and it takes around 1.5 hours or 2 at the most. Then once a month (pick a day, like the 15th) I clean out the fridge, do the baseboards and blinds and other stuff that I don't get to weekly. Once you get a good routine down it's simple!

I don't know about the kid's chores but for housework you could buy or use a yearly calendar on your computer.  Write down all the chores you can think of on a piece of paper and then start filling up the calendar for things that need to be done.  I just read this from a blog and it sounds like a great idea.  A pain in the ass to set up but if you use a calendar that has reoccuring events you will only have to set this up once.  Here is a link to her blog!!

No organization in my home over housework..it only gets done right when mommy does it anyway.  I'm too busy making sure my daughter isn't falling off chairs backwards and my son isn't spending too many hours on video games. If I see it needs done, I do it when I get the chance. My house stays pretty clean this way. But I think I'm going to have to put up a calendar in the bathroom for my son so I can make sure he brushes his teeth and changes his underwear, showers, deodorant everyday without me having to bug him.

I dont have children yet, But i do have a big house, I do one big job every day, which takes around 30 mins,

Mondays -Hoover and dust

Tuesdays -change bed sheets

Wednesday- Bathroom

Thursday tiled hard floors

Friday - Ironing

Saturday- Gardening if the weather is nice. Or if the weather is bad a bigger job in the house, Skirting boards, washing nets, curtains etc.

Sundays - Of course REST

Working like this means the house is clean and tidy all the time.

But i would like to do it differently so that i have some more off in the evenings, As i work full time.

My boys are all so young, I feel like the chores I give them are more for future sake than anything else. But, I give the oldest two 2 chores a day and they have a little posterboard with pictures in their room to remind them. And of course, they have to keep their room tidy and can't bring out more than 1 toy to the living room.

They alternate every other day.

DayA

Feed/Water dog

Detail check (put fallen pillows on the couch, shoes in the closet, basically the things I do a hundred times a day but never say that way)

DayB

Put away silverware and things that go below the counter

Brush the dog
