The only caution I would have with these Eastern European block countries is that they tend to have a lot of underground unscrupulous activities: illegal adoption, sex trade, organ donation etc... I would be paranoid that my embryos would end up on some black market somewhere..Tongue Tied

There is more info about this in the International High Tech Forum....

Here's one such post about the Czech clinic:

http://www.in-gender.com/cs/forums/t/58008.aspx

My question is:  how come more Americans don't go International for ivf/pgd??  Even with the cost of a flight (many have to pay for a flight to Cali or the like anyway) and hotel stay and such, it seems like it is sooo much cheaper abroad than in the US.  And there seem to be quite a few different options; Czech Republic, South Africa, Thailand, Jordan, etc....

Obviously, one would want to check statistics and success rates for any clinic in the US or abroad that they were considering...  But, it seems that some of these are at least comparable to clinics in the US, only cheaper.

Article about an American woman who used the Cape Town clinic in South Africa:

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/19100571//

"The cost of her three-week IVF vacation? About $6,400, including airfare and hotel stay. Anderson’s IVF — including drugs, procedures, and lab and hospital fees — accounted for just $3,600 of that total."

What do you ladies think about this?  Opinions?

Thanks for the response ladies. I am starting this process just had a baby girl who is six months old now. I would like to get going before i hit 35 i know it will be very difficult with a 6 year old and 6months. I am a little concerned to go to a country where i don't even speak the lanugage but the prices are pretty good as compare to here in states. I heard that HRC in LA is very good they have very experienced doctors and nurses. I don't know anyone on this have gone to IVF Vacation and know someone who is been to CZ.

Oh Oh NO NO, ..............., we are standard European union country with pretty normal behavior here - you don't have to be afraid of walking on the street, nobody is going to illegally adopt you or steal your organs, even sex trade is not happening on a daily basis :-)))). We are just next to Germany and Austria and have a lot in common with these countries, we are far away from REALLY dangerous countries. And the healthcare is on very high level. Especially IVF treatments are very high standards and some of our Drs are well known for their skills worldwide.

But PGD is legal only for medical reasons based on EU law. Of course it may happen (although I have never heard about it, untill I found this site) that they will do it for gender selection as it probably secretly happens anywhere in Europe if some Dr. is willing to do it, but oficially all EU countries do not allow gender selection for except of medical reasons.
