Clinical trial will measure the social effects of gender selection

Published Thursday, October 27, 2005 12:35 AM

What is the social impact of parents choosing the sex of a child for family balancing?  Researchers at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston have launched a study of 50 prospective parents who already have a child of one gender, and hope to use PGD to conceive a baby of the opposite gender.  The study will look at the health of the babies and "social factors" as the children grow up.

Why ask for comments if you're just going to remove the ones that don't agree with your philosophy? Valid points have been brought up by other people such as the effect on the children already present yet they are removed? It's a very good thing to explore and if a study were done to see the possible damage that could come to these children that weren't enough for their parents maybe gs would not be chosen. I guess it's easier to not think about such things because if one did think long and hard about it they would see that others are right.

Hello Lydia, if you posted a valid comment and I removed it I apologize.

However, I will remove comments that seem accusatory to me. Debate on whether gender selection itself is right or wrong is welcome in the Debate forum I set up for this purpose. I do not intend to host such a debate elsewhere on this site and I take issue with someone using my blog as a daily platform to preach a certain viewpoint. A person who wishes to do this should start her own blog.

Again, if this does not apply to your comment then I apologize if it was removed in error.
