The Presumption in Favor of Liberty

In the United Kingdom, gender selection was banned after an opinion poll showed that most UK citizens were opposed to its use for family balancing ("social reasons"). German bioethicist Edgar Dahl has criticized the ruling for violating the principle of the presumption of liberty. Although Dahl specifically addresses the United Kingdom, his statements apply to any government that values the personal freedom of its citizens.
